Swear Jar

Nick was walking into the living room when he tripped over a rug.

"Shit." He said but he caught himself before he could fall.

"Swear jar daddy." Jasmine said as she pointed to a jar on top of the shelf.

"Oops." Nick mumbled as he dug a dollar out of his wallet and stuck it in the jar.

Jasmine grinned at him. Nick and Jackie had come up with the swear jar idea to discourage themselves from using bad language in front of the kids, they didn't swear very often but sometimes mishaps happened and they did, they wanted to stop doing it and so they thought this was a fun way to remind them to watch their mouths.

They told the kids that once the swear jar was filled they would all go out for ice cream as a family with the money.

Telling the kids that had sounded like a good idea at the beginning but not any more because now the kids were listening, hyper focused on catching them when they said bad words.

Later that afternoon Catherine stopped over to go over a case with Nick.

"Want something to drink?" Jackie asked her and Nick.

"Do we have any more lemonade?" Nick asked her.

"Yeah, would you like some?"

"Please." Nick said.

Jackie looked at Catherine.

"Yes, please." Catherine answered her.

Jackie poured two glasses of lemonade and brought them over to the table.

"Thanks Jacks." Nick told her.

"Thank you, Jackie." Catherine replied.

"You're welcome." Jackie answered both of them.

"Oh, Jackie I forgot to bring over those recipes I promised you, damn it, sorry." Catherine told her.

"Swear jar, Catherine." Jasmine said, suddenly appearing in the kitchen.

"Oh, no sweetheart, that's only for mommy and daddy." Jackie told her, she was mortified.

"What?" Catherine asked, completely confused.

"Nick and I started a swear jar, if we swear we have to put a dollar in it, when the jar gets full we are all going out for ice cream." Jackie explained.

Catherine grinned, clearly amused.

To Nick's and Jackie's surprise Catherine got up from her chair and went over to where she had laid her purse. She pulled out her wallet and removed a dollar bill and handed it to Nick.

"Catherine, really, you don't have to do that." Jackie told her.

"I'll follow the rules, a swear word is a swear word."

"Make it a hundred and I'll do your paperwork for the next month." Nick told her with a grin.

"Forget it, Nicky." She said adamantly.

Nick laughed.

Nick put the dollar in the swear jar and then he and Catherine got back to work on their case.

Jackie meanwhile, was left wishing she and Nick had never started the swear jar!

The End!
