An "unpublished chapter" from the Silmarillion. The reuniting of Finrod Felagund and Amarië of the Vanyar written in quasi-Tolkien style. ;) Sadly, I don't own anything.

Of Finrod and Amarië

Finrod was released from the Halls of Mandos when Námo judged him healed enough. Finrod had always been true of heart and thus it was not along time he had to wait in the Timeless Halls. When he was released, he went immediately to see his father and mother: Finarfin, King of Noldor in Valinor, and Eärwen his wife. From them Finrod heard much of what had befallen in Valinor since the Noldor who followed Fëanor left it, and indeed they sat long telling tales the others did not yet know.

Now Finrod was invited to live in the house of his father until he had a house of his own. But when evening came Finrod was restless and eager to re-encounter Valinor, and did not go to sleep, but went to walk on the streets of Tirion as he had done in his youth. As he stood high upon the walls looking far away to the hill where the Two Trees had stood ere the darkening he heard someone coming behind him. When he turned around he saw that it was Amarië, a maiden of the Vanyar whom he had known and loved back in the days of old. Long times had passed, but young they were still, and she was even now as sweet as she had been, but now there was a deep wisdom in her eyes.

Amarië had not by her family's wish been allowed to follow the Noldor into exile, nor would she have wanted to, and great was her grief when she and Finrod parted, but even greater was her joy when they reunited. Together they walked now on the streets and stood upon the walls of the city, and again he told of all the things he had seen in Middle-Earth and Amarië noticed that he did not speak of any maidens of Endórë that he would have met, and thus she asked him:

"I see that you returned here alone. Were there no women of the Moriquendi for you to choose from?"

Then Finrod looked at her and the moon shone upon them as they stood together. And he saw that although there had never been any talk of engagement or marriage between them, she still remembered their friendship and indeed still loved him.

And he took her hand and said: "I would have had no hope of a family or an heir and neither could I have been given amidst the troubles of Beleriand. Many I might have chosen from, but none could I have take, for none surpassed Amarië of the Vanyar that I left behind in my folly." And he said: "That folly and those troubles are now behind me. I can see clearly now."

Then he kissed her and she did not turn away, for long had she waited to see her beloved one again. And as the moon went passed behind the walls of the world and the singing birds soared into the sky to greet the first rays of the Sun that fell upon Tirion, Finrod Felagund and Amarië of the Vanyar stood still together and upon the walls of the city they plighted their troth.

At this all Elves of Aman rejoiced, for this proved that the shadows of the past were gone even from the hearts of the exiled and a new era could begin.
