I woke up late the next morning. Marlin and I had been working in the farm until midnight last night and I was exhausted. I rubbed my eyes and walked over to the bathroom. I washed my face and went back to the kitchen. I grabbed some of Bessie's milk out of the fridge and drank it. I placed it on the table. But there was something there…

It was a note and it read…

"Dear Bridget,

meet me at the hot springs in half 'n' hour" I put it in my pocket. It didn't say who it was from. It was probably from Celia and she wanted to talk about something. I was guessing Marlin. If that was the case I didn't really want to go. I mean I like Celia and all but I didn't want to go and bad mouth Marlin. He was my friend too.

I got some clothes on and headed out side. I didn't see Marlin anywhere so I checked the barn. I saw Bessie but no Marlin. Oh well I was already late for whoever I was meeting. I walked down the path, past Vesta's farm and to the hot springs. It was a little place with trees and of course, a hot spring. Marlin sat on a log throwing stones into the water.

"Marlin" Is said confused. He jumped up and brushed his pants off. He walked over and smiled. "Did you write this?" I asked. He took the piece of paper and looked at it.

"Yeah" he answered. He put it in his jacket pocket.

"Oh" I said, again confused. "Why?" I asked. He took a big breath and let it out.

"I want to ask you something" He explained. I sat on a rock in front of him. He did the same.

"Okay yeah, I'm listening" I said. Butterflies turned in my stomach. He looked at me and told me how he appreciated every thing I have done for him. How I was very kind to let him live on my farm. How I listened to what he had to say, and how I was a great friend.

"Thanks" I replied.

"But that's not what I wanted to tell you" He replied. My stomach turned rapidly. I felt as if I had done 30 flips inside.

"Okay, spill" I said biting my lip.

"What I wanted to tell you was…"

"Hey guys!" Rock shouted from down the pathway. I couldn't believe it! Rock totally ruined the moment!

"Rock!" Marlin said fiercely. Marlin got up and ran to Rock. He took him by the ear and pulled him by the lake.

"I was going to do it you idiot!" And that was all I could hear. I played with the sand until Marlin came back. He sat down again.

"Sorry, Rock's an idiot" He said jokingly. "What I wanted to tell you was…I love you" My heart felt as if it had jumped.
