Full Moon Madness.
James Potter's heart pounded in his chest as he ran towards the Whomping Willow as fast as his feet would carry him. He had so much ground to make up on Severus Snape, who he had observed entering the Willow, unknowingly headed for Remus Lupin, who would be transformed into a full grown Werewolf when Snape saw him.
James ran as fast as he could, but only caught up to Snape when Snape had reached the end of the tunnel.
"SNAPE!" James shouted. "Stop! Wait! You don't know what you're doing!"
Snape climbed into the shack. "No, Potter, I'll finally find out Lupin's secrets."
James ran even harder, but it was too late, Snape swung the door open. Snape gasped as he laid eyes on Remus the teenaged Werewolf. James saw Padfoot curled up next to Remus as he raced next to Snape, who was frozen in shock and terror.
Growling, Remus stood on his hind legs and eyed Snape like he was a tasty morsel. James wrenched Snape away and backed away from Remus, pushing Snape behind him and back into the tunnel, with Remus and Sirius following them.
Snape stood, thunderstruck as James pulled him back further. The shaggy black dog had pounced on the Werewolf, giving James and Sirius a few precious seconds. James pulled out his wand, and Snape followed his lead, thinking that they were going to hex the beast.
"Don't!" James said, as Snape raised his wand, whilst James arced his around. Two guitars formed up infront of them.
"Take one!" James ordered. Snape obeyed. James started strumming, and Snape followed his lead.
"Just what are you trying to achieve, Potter?" Snape demanded, as they scrambled backwards.
"Hagrid said that music soothes Cerebri."
"And so you try it out on a Werewolf."
"Do you have a better idea?" James asked. Before Snape could respond. "That won't hurt Remus?"
Snape shook his head, still backing off.
"I think we need to do a tune, it seems to work better that way." James said, and began strumming on his guitar.
"Who let the dogs out?" James sung, whilst Snape looked at him like he had lost his mind.
"Come on Snape!" James begged, as Snape faltered. Get my throat ripped out by a Werewolf, or sing a duet with James Potter?
He decided to do the Slytherin thing and take care of himself, and began singing along with James.
"Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out ?"
The two wondered if the song was having a positive effect, and it seemed to be. But for some strange reason, it looked like the shaggy black dog was laughing.
Dogs don't laugh, Snape tried to tell himself.
Someone should have told the insane mutt.
Snape and James continued to back out, instead of singing the words to the song, they kept repeating the chorus. The mangy mutt stared getting closer, so Snape took control of the lyrics.
"Get back, Gruffy, back, Scruffy
Get back you flea infested mongrel."
James gritted his teeth in outrage at what James called his best friend.
"Hey, man, no get angry"
James saw Remus closing in, so sung along with Snape.
"Who let the dogs out? Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who
The duet continued until they both backed out of the tunnel.
"We will never speak of this to anyone." Snape said.
"Agreed." Said James, shaking Snape's hand.
