Note: This is a short fanfiction based on the game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. It was written by me on July 2nd, 2007.

I stared at the newly-crafted lightsaber in my hands. It was a double-bladed one, shining with a violet crystal, and almost identical to the one the Jedi Council had taken away from me. Only Jedi should wield lightsabers, and I was a Jedi no longer.

I shook my head with a faint smile on my face while pondering that idea, and I couldn't keep myself from wondering what the true definition of a Jedi is. Is it the one acknowledged by the Council? Or the one who truly feels like a Jedi at heart - the one who cares about people and wants to restore order wherever he can?

My motivation to do what I had done was never anything but that. I joined Revan and Malak to fight in the Mandalorian Wars only because I knew it was the right thing to do. Maybe in time, the Council would have agreed. But by then, it would have been too late. And so I was exiled for doing the right thing.

I lifted my head and saw the stars brightening up the night sky. Without them, there would be nothing but darkness. Is that how the Jedi Council sees itself? As bringing light into the darkness? But what of people like me? Maybe I was nothing but a fallen star to them. Fallen to the dark side.

But perhaps the dark side is a subject open to interpretation. I ignored the Council's orders, yes, but does that make me evil? I headed out to do what I thought - and still think - was best. Maybe putting aside the orders of others to do what should be done brings you closer to the light side than anyone else can ever be.

And even now, as I retreated from any Jedi business I had had previously, I felt the urge to do something. I couldn't just sit and watch. Perhaps the Council will seek to punish me for whatever actions I intend to take, but if needed, I would defy them again. I activated my lightsaber and waved it around a couple of times to get used to its presence again. Then I headed out into the night.
