Summary:
Christina is brilliant. But that can't stop it.
Christina is what one might call a genius.
She's brilliant in every way.
There has never been a problem she couldn't look at and simply figure out. It's been that way since she was a child. She remembers looking at her first bike and knowing how it works, before even touching it. Her parents were confused when she sat on it, and began peddling down the street, needing no assistants from them.
She's always been brilliant, always known…everything.
However, the day her husband brought home a child, only slightly older then her own, she knew this was something she didn't know.
Christina knew she was a good mother. She fed her child. Provided him with everything he could ever need or what or desire. And she loved him. Maybe not quite like the other mothers. She didn't feel the need to let him crawl in bed with her, or cuddle him to sleep. But she loved him in her own way.
Yet the moment her husband introduced her to her 'new' son Lincoln, she stared at something she simply couldn't understand. Her toddler son crept on unsteady legs to the much taller boy who just stared down at him in confusion.
Her beautifully brilliant son stared up at the boy.
Even then Christina could see the life in the boy's deep blue eyes. She could see he would make her proud. He would be her future, her hope, her support, her everything.
Yet in the moment of meeting, her hopes died.
Michael reached up with tiny arms, and wrapped them around the other boy's waist. Without any hesitation or doubt. Without any fear or shame. Complete love written on his face.
The moment Lincoln's arms settle around Michael's shoulder's, the love returned, and Michael smiles into his chest, Christina knew she had lost her everything.
