I Hope You Dance
Lily sings to baby Harry.
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter.
As she looked down at her one year old son, Lily couldn't help but imagine a future where her family didn't have to hide. Harry would probably be old enough to run around and get into things. A child of the marauder's making his parent's proud. As little Harry whimpered in his sleep, Lily remembered a song she heard once at a muggle store and began singing it to him.
I
hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single
breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I
hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever
one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give
faith a fighting chance
And
when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you never fear those mountains in
the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake
But it's worth making
Don't let
some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to
selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than
just a passing glance
She could just see him now, fighting for what he believed in. Never giving an inch on what he truly believed in. He would be courageous, righteous, a true King amongst the lions in Gryffindor. Her baby would be fine even with the prophecy hanging over him. As for love well, that would come with time, and really who wouldn't love him.
And
when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I
hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever
one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give
faith a fighting chance
And
when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Dance
I hope
you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you
dance
I hope you dance
Lily kissed him goodnight and with one last glance left the nursery. She didn't know that in a weeks time everything would change. Or that fifteen years later her son would hear this very song, cry and forever wonder why in that moment he could feel his mother's lips on his forehead.
