Would You Be A Dad Again?
Disclaimer-Sadly I don't own Doctor Who. I won't even own the DVDs until I get them for christmas.
Summary-Rose has been acting strangely and The Doctor is about to find out why. 10/Rose. Major fluff and angst warnings but (thankfully) no doomsday in sight. Oneshot.
Rating- K+
The Doctor glanced nervously at Rose from his place at the console. She had been almost completely silent all morning, not even looking at him but staring at the grilled floor of the TARDIS and from the hastily rubbed away mascara smudges she had obviously been crying.
Trawling through his mind he tried to find some logical explanation but there appeared to be none. They had spent last night together again. His arms wrapped round her waist from behind. The outline of his body echoing hers and his face nuzzled into her shoulder. She had complained happily that his breath was too ticklish.
Moving quietly he walked over tp her and crouched down in her line of vision. Suddenly noticing his presence she tried to force a smile but instead a tear escaped down her cheek. He reached up and gently wiped it away.
"What is it?" he whispered softly.
"Nothing," she said quickly, too quickly, breaking his gaze, "I'm fine, honestly" she added.
He looked at her sadly. He could tell a lot of things just by looking at a person, but not their thoughts. He could see those too, but only if invited.
He looked at her again, raising an eyebrow questioningly.
She saw the hurt look on his face and sighed.
"Ever been a dad Doctor?" she asked with a tiny broken laugh.
His confusion deepened. Rose would never ask about his family, his past. She knew how much it hurt him and sure enough he felt a pang of guilt and pain twist in his stomach.
"Once," he whispered, " a very long time ago"
Rose lapsed into silence again wiping a few stray tears from her face, refusing to look at him.
"I always wanted kids," she said suddenly, "didn't know who with mind you," she looked at him, "s'pose I always thought it'd be Mickey."
He let her talk. He knew that somewhere in the confusion and emotion the answers to his questions would trickle through.
"Would you be a dad again?" she asked abruptly, finally turning to look at him with fearful eyes.
And finally, he understood.
"Oh Rose" he said gently enveloping her in a hug while she collapsed on his shoulder crying, clinging to him for dear life. Between the sobs all he could catch was her uneven voice apologising again and again.
"I'm sorry," she mumbled into his coat when the crying subsided, "I honestly never meant…" she trailed off.
"I haven't given my answer yet" he reminded her, smiling slightly, and she looked up at him wide-eyed, not daring to hope.
"And?"
He smiled. "For you Rose," he placed a reassuring kiss on her cheek, "anything."
I love reviews, I might write some more if I get some reviews. That is if you want me to write more!
