Reincarnation
FMA Historical Future – Our World
By Raekitty13
Disclaimer: I do not own the Elric Brothers or any other characters in FMA, 'cuz if I did, I wouldn't have made Ed so short!
Author's Notes: Yay! FMA rox! This idea came to me one day when I was home sick from school. Basically it starts off with Ed's last words to Al. This chapter is really more of a prologue, that's why it's so short… Please don't be insulted or angry with me if I don't update this story as much as you would like! Oh! And one other thing, I love reviews, whether you like my story or not!
Chapter One – Brother Don't Leave Me
"No, Brother!" Al screamed, clutching at Ed's hand. "You can't die! You can't leave me here!"
"Umm, Al?" Ed asked. "Could you do me a favor?"
"Sure, Brother! Anything! What is it you need?"
"For you to stop screaming like a ten-year-old!" Ed began ranting. "For Alchemy's sake, you're ninety-something! Grow up!"
"But-but, Brother!" Al argued, tears starting to slide down his face. "You're DYING!""Then why are you trying to prevent me from dying a PEACEFUL death?" Ed was only pretending to be angry with Al.
"Because, I came to this world in search of you! You can't leave me trapped here now, all by myself!" Al's tears were now free falling. "B-brother, please!"
"Relax, Al." Ed started, but was interrupted by one of his coughing fits.
"Brother?" Al asked fearfully. "Please don't leave me."
Ed smiled slightly. "I'm not leaving you. We'll meet again."
"In the Gate?" Al asked slightly confused.
"No, most likely not." Ed answered. "I'm thinkin' more along the lines of the Alchemic Law of Equivalent Exchange…"
"I thought we agreed there was no such thing, Brother!" Al exclaimed.
"Here me-" Ed started coughing again. After the coughs subsided he continued, "-out. Think about it this way, the Gate collects all things that die or are sacrificed, right?"
"Yeah." Al said. "So?"
"So what happens when the Gate gets filled?" Ed asked, hoping to cause Al to think of the answer himself.
"The Gate can get filled?" Al mused. "I assumed it never would."
"Okay, look at it this way." Ed tried. "Where do souls go when the body dies?"
"The Gate," Al supplied deep in thought.
"Right, so where do the souls come from?"
Al's face grew bright as he exclaimed, "The Gate! It's like a never ending cycle!"
"Exactly." Ed said nodding slightly.
"But, what's that called?"
"Reincarnation." Ed replied handing Al a book. "All the details are in here. Study it if it helps you any."
"Brother, what if we're reincarnated in opposite worlds?" Al asked quietly.
"I don't think that'll happen, Al." Ed ruffled his younger brother's graying hair. "So stop worrying."
"Brother?"
"Yeah?" Ed's eyes were closed peacefully.
"What if when we're reincarnated, we aren't brothers or even reincarnated at the same time?"
"We're alive at the same time now…" Ed reasoned. "And as for us being brothers in our next life… we'll always be brothers… if not biologically… then we'll still be… just as close as brothers."
"Ed?" Al asked. When Ed didn't respond, he became quite hysterical. "Brother? BROTHER! EDWARD ELRIC THIS IS NOT FUNNY! ANSWER ME NOW!"
Al died the next night of a heart attack brought on by old age and the stress of his older brother's death.
