Bess's Wedding
This was it. Today was her big day. The day she would get married to her fiancé, Dave Evans. Bess Marvin smoothed out the bodice of her wedding dress.
She looked around the room, at her bridesmaids. George was grumbling in front of the mirror about her pink dress, Maggie was spraying- No, forget that, dipping in Chanel No.2, Sydney was fixing her hair, and Nancy, her maid of honor, was looking for something.
"So, Bridezilla, you excited?" teases George Fayne, her cousin. George's real name was Georgia, but she never responded to anyone if they called her Georgia.
"The only thing that would make this day unforgettable, was if Diedre doesn't wiggle through." said Maggie, her younger sister.
"That's probably because Vic and his buddies are here." said Sydney Marvin, her older cousin. Sydney was a beautiful red-headed model, who was married to Victor Valdez, a former star on the show Daredevils.
"Nancy, are you looking for?" asked Bess. Nancy had her head under the bed.
"Damn it! They're not here, either." yelled out a frustrated Nancy.
Bess just rolled her eyes and picked up a pair of fuschia heels, which matched the bridesmaid dresses.
"They were in the shoe-rack this whole time?!" yelled Nancy.
Nancy Drew was now 24, but she still was as scatterbrained as before. And George still hadn't outgrown her phase, even though she was the first in their gang to turn 24. Bess was next, while Nancy was last.
The girls had met the first day of baby nursery, and had been best friends since then. Bess and George helped Nancy solve mysteries, and sometimes ended up on the front page of the River Heights Bugle.
Soon, everybody was ready, and they went downstairs. As the organ music started, the bridesmaids assembled in a line.
The flower girl, Nickie, Nancy and Ned Nickerson's 3 year old daughter walked down the aisle, sprinkling rose petals everywhere.
Dave's younger brothers held the back of Bess's dress, as she walked down the aisle. She reached the end of the aisle, and met Dave's eyes.
She had not seen him since his proposal to her, two weeks ago, and she was only allowed to text him. The only time she had seen him was when he posted a picture of him and his friends at his bachelor's party, on Instagram.
As she mumbled and nodded through her vows, the only thing she was focusing on was Dave. Finally, the minister asked her "Do you, Elizabeth Marvin, take David Evans as your lawfully wedded husband?" Bess said "I do."
Then confetti was thrown into the air as she kissed her new husband, Dave, and she knew that everything was going to be all right.
