Alterations: Hinata's wounds healing slower and Gaara getting lost.

Gaara/Hinata Note: Takes place during the Chunin exams when Gaara tried to kill Rock Lee in the hospital

Chapter 1

Gaara studied the mass of flesh under the bedsheet. The one who was close enough to be his equal now lays in the hospital bed in front of him. His own bloodlust is slowly consuming him. Gaara smiles as the blood scented sediments dance on top of Rock Lee. 'It's over', he thinks as he watches the body attempt to break free. He removed the sheet to see the face of his victim. He stopped smiling.

Hinata squeaked as she gazed at the sand ninja above her. As she saw his face, her breath became shaky and her heart rate increased. Remembering the horrifying events that transpired at the 2nd test, her palms began to sweat. She soon felt relieved when the sand receded into the dry gourd. He turns towards the door and casually walks away, looking back at her only once as if to say "You aren't worth it." Hinata manages to force out a question before he made it out of her sight completely. "Why?"

Upon hearing this, annoyed, he faces her.

Since it was his mistake, Gaara acknowledged the question with an answer; "Wrong room". Seeing the pathetic girl slightly quivering with fear, he analysed her. Looking at her closely, he remembered she was from the preliminary trials. When he thought about the battle she gained her injuries from. He was puzzled about a particular action she did. "During the preliminary trials, why did you not forfeit?" he questioned.

Hinata blushed. She remembered why. Feeling more nervous than before, she struggled to talk. "w-Well, because.." She felt the intimidating stare. "...nevermind" He sighed. He continued walking away, and Hinata watched as he did so.

Wait!' She thought to herself. Wrong room? If this is the wrong room, who was he going after? It couldn't be... Naruto? No, but he's targeting someone, and right now she just may be able to put him on hold. She can do this. She might be useful! "The reason? The reason I never gave up is.." With a sudden burst of confidence, she proceeded to answer. "..because he believed in me!"

"Hm?" Gaara felt his eyes narrow. How? To continue to fight even though it is inevitable she could die? This confused him, so much to the point in which his head felt like it was spinning. Questions were asked that have never been asked before; Why risk your life for someone that could be lying? What kind of reasoning did this girl have? Who could have this kind of effect on people? The sand around him swirled as his uncertainty clouds his judgement. "How? Why? Who?"

Startled, Hinata moves toward the window. Forgetting the edge of the bed, she begins to fall. With a small yelp she finds herself on the ground on the other side of the bed. She had to think of something, but she can't think of anything! Why can't she think faster?! When can she learn to not to be a burden on those around her? No wonder her father prefers Neji over her. She really is useless. Now the sand is visible. It's too late for her.

No, he can't kill her! There are questions needed to be answered! Although, he needs to kill! He's getting antsy and has had just enough of this pest. He should just kill her right now. She'll die anyway, with skills like that.

Just then, the medic who was caring for Hinata ran in, along with Temari. "Gaara! Enough!" She yelled "You s-shouldn't waste your time with such, uh..." She glanced at the girl on the floor "...weaklings." Gaara calmed himself. He finally made his way out of the room. 'What has me so worked up over such an insignificant little coward like her?' Doubts he once had long ago resurfaced, thoughts and emotions he thought of as long forgotten filled his mind to the brim. He soon found himself out of the hospital.
