When you fall in love with a stranger on public transportation

Railway

They took the same train each weekday morning.

It was a repetitive routine, necessary for the both of them to get to their destinations. They always rode with the same people; yawning students, overworked businessmen, the occasional traveler. The train cart would always be filled with hushed conversations, muffled music, and incessant coughing. And every day the same girl with the salmon colored hair would be seated at her usual spot near the door.

Okita Sougo always found himself glancing at her unconsciously. She stuck out like a sore thumb among the throng of black and gray with her odd colored hair and detached aura. Her head was always turned to the right, watching the scenery pass by through the window.

He'd often watch her in the corner of his eye; the way she pouted and sighed, the occasional yawn she gave, the way she constantly tugged at her uniform skirt, how her blue eyes would twinkle when the sunlight hit them. She was a constant distraction, but he couldn't bring himself to look away from her.

They didn't go to the same school, nor have the same stop. After 15 minutes the train would stop and she'd get off, disappearing into the crowd of people and leaving nothing but a warm buzz in Sougo's mind.

He didn't see her any other place, but he was content with this arrangement. And with each passing day, he found himself eager for the next morning.

As Kagura made her way towards her classroom she couldn't help but inwardly scream at herself. She wasn't ignorant of the constant stares she got whenever she boarded the morning train, she knew her hair was unusual, but she caught him glancing at her more than once.

She flushed at the thought of the boy who sat directly across from her. They took the same train each morning and although they never spoke a single word to one another, she found herself infatuated with him.

Of course the reason he might have glanced her way more than once may have to do with her appearance, but she let her imagination go wild. She doubted they would ever see each other outside the train or even have an exchange of words, so she let herself go and fantasize.

Once she reached her classroom, she spotted her friends Otae and Kyuubei chatting at their desks. She hurried inside, eager to tell them of the sandy haired boy with maroon eyes.

The next morning was like the rest; yawns, coughs, chatter, and the hum of the moving train. Sougo sat at his usual seat, eyes sleepy with hands stuffed in his pockets. He snickered at the woman who accidentally spilled coffee on herself and the man who realized he forgot his cellphone. Just another morning, he mused and slouched a bit.

After a couple of minutes the train stopped once again and Sougo straightened up. The salmon haired girl stepped on and immediately sat down across from him, bag in her lap, chin on hand, eyes facing the window.

15 minutes passed and the train came to a stop, prompting the girl to get up and leave. Sougo's eyes watched her once again disappear into the crowd before settling on her empty seat. They narrowed as he spotted something glint in the sun. Before anyone else could, he darted up and snatched whatever it was and sat back down, wondering if he looked like an idiot. Shrugging to himself he peered at the thing in his hand.

He rolled his eyes, realizing she had forgotten her rail pass. Stupid girl.

Sounds like something straight out of a shoujo manga. Sorry not sorry. I can't wait to put them in awkward situations now.
