Prome
Summary: "Well, /Jade/, if you hate everyone else's suggestions, do /you/ have any?" She smiled, a very plastic curve of her lips.
Jade got up, and began to casually saunter in front of the girls, folding her arms behind her back. She had the most gleamingly satisfied smirk on her face. Her head turned to leer at the crowd, and even more so at Tori. "Because what better group of boys to perform at Hollywood Art's Prome - then One Direction's ever-so-/gifted/ rival?"
Rating: T
Pairings: Jades [Jade West and James Diamond], Catlos [Cat Valentine and Carlos Garcia].
AN: So, this idea is incredibly old. I've probably thought about this for over a YEAR. It's been sitting in my computer, at three thousand words with no take off. But tonight I wanted to get something out because AllOfMeHatesYou and I's babies are fighting and it's just not okay. And by babies, I mean Jade and James in the RP world. It's just so upsetting.. I got ridiculously worked up this morning and considering I knew I couldn't type out too many words with me feeling like this, I just paid a little attention to this one and fixed it up. I also set an ending to it.
I thought it was a pretty snazzy idea when I initially thought it up, but that all depends on your perspective. I hope you DO like it, because I'm quite fond of it.
And per usual, because I'm going to sponsor this lovely human, DO READ "JADE'S BIG TIME REVENGE" because it's just getting better and better and KILLING ME. As well as his latest one-shot, "BIG TIME 'ACCIDENT'". It's one of our beautiful RP moments and I love it so much.. He's just a marvelous writer - and human.
Enjoy.

It was that time of the year again, that horrible time of the year. Final exams. OH, and it was Prome season too. Ever since Tori had lightened the idea up to the principal last year [well, now Helen was the principal; considering the other quit to move to Hawaii or Tahiti or something with his girlfriend], it had become an annual thing. And not only was it Prome, it was Senior Prome, making it far more spectacular and needing far more work to go into it!
Now, Jade was never one for dances. Getting dressed up in monkey suits and getting expensive limo rentals just to go to a trivial, unnecessary dance was not her cup of tea at all. But this year, she was going to get a date. And not only a date, but James Diamond. They'd been dating for nearly six months - particularly five months and eighteen days, not that she was counting - and she figured she might as well casually mention it when she saw him that afternoon, but she wouldn't be seeing him for a good - two hours now, and now it was time for lunch.
When she took a seat at the table, the last thing she wanted to hear about was Tori's escapades in finding caterers and a dance floor. The Latina had been given the ever-so-prestigious honor of leader of the Prom committee; go figure. She had to frankly be involved in everything and in Jade's eyes, nothing was more nauseating than that.
"It's so frustrating! All of the good music groups have already been booked for different Proms and won't bother coming to this one!" She frowned with a disgruntled expression. "I even tried getting One Direction, and they were already booked for Cortine's." That evoked a series of groans from the members of the table. It wasn't because of the band choice, but because of the school mentioned.
Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts had been a hefty competitor in comparison to Hollywood Arts. In the past, they had nearly been shut down for good because of their lack of enrollments due to the school's success. Every student at Hollywood Arts hated Cortine's with a passion.
Jade rolled her eyes. "Cortine's gets everything; even good teachers." One of Hollywood Art's best Choir teachers had moved over to the school on increase of pay, Mrs. Hayes. She had been a nice lady, bright, cheerful, and had one of the most angelic voices. But a monetary increase [cha-ching] was always something that drew teachers away, anyone actually; it was frustrating.
"True." André sighed in agreement, his face matching the other solemn expressions.
Tori, sensing her friends' distress in bringing up the-school-that-shall-not-be-named-out-loud, decided to bring up something else. "ANYWAY, anybody have any dates for Prome yet?" She said with a suggestive tone, wiggling her eyebrows with a grin.
Cat giggled, so attention was naturally turned to her first. "What?" She asked innocently, with her usual shyness and innocence.
Tori nudged her with an elbow. "Who are you bringing?" The redhead exchanged a secret smile with Jade, who casually disguised it by bringing her hand to her mouth and coughing into it.
She tilted her head. "Who am I bringing to what?"
"PROME!" They all yelled in unison, making her cower back a little, except Jade, who was the only one aware of whom she was bringing. The two had a little secret that only them, their men, and the other two of their friends knew about.
Each of two was dating a member from Big Time Rush. Cat was dating Carlos [after continual efforts on James' and Jade's side to get it to finally happen] and of course Jade was dating James. Cat and Carlos were like puzzle pieces, innocent enough, but fit together like two buttons. James and Jade however were like ying and yang and fought often, but yet she seemed very happy with him all of the time.
She hadn't worn so many smiles consecutively in years than when she started dated him. He was far different from what she had initially anticipated.
"Nobody." She stated in a nervous voice. "Just - laughing at a joke Jade told me!" She hinted to have her pick up. Cat was not good at lying.
Jade sent her a look, but glanced at them with a bored expression. "Ugh, why did the ants dance on the jam jar?"
They all exchanged looks and gave answers, which were all wrong of course.
She raised her fork as if it was obvious. "The lid said, 'twist to open.'" Which made them all said in unison, 'Oh' as if they knew it all along. She rolled her eyes, 'gullible idiots.'
But while the others were discussing it, Jade noticed Beck looking at her oddly. She raised an eyebrow and he got up and ushered for her to follow. Shrugging, she did, stepping over to the side with him. What did he want? It wasn't that far away from the table, so most of them were probably listening.
"What?" She asked with a bored expression, crossing her arms defiantly. Anything he wanted was bound to be stupid.
He scratched the back of his head, smoothing his fingers through his hair. "Well, last year I wasn't able to take you to Prome since I was in Canada, and I was wondering if you wanted to be my date - this year." They had broken up nearly nine months ago and now he was approaching her?
Her eyebrows shot up in surprise and she glanced behind her to see her friends watching with strained ears and necks and she rolled her eyes, before finally looking to him. "I already have a date; no." Before abruptly turn and leaving him, taking a hasty seat back down.
But the silence was odd and she looked up to see all of her friends staring daggers at her, faces muddled with confusion. "You already have a date?" Tori asked as if it was a surprise, but then again it was.
This was Jade they were talking about; this was no average girl that would just spontaneously receive dates. She was unapproachable most of the time! Who could have possibly asked her and managed to get a yes in return?
Jade rolled her eyes for the umpteenth time that day. "Obviously. You sound surprised." Her eyes narrowed maliciously.
Tori smiled a nervous, forced smile. "What? Of course not! No! I was just wondering - who the lucky fella was!" She initiated with a hearty swing of her arm, glancing around the table for support.
Jade shrugged, but didn't answer, forking at her food, inwardly smiling. Often enough, she would have told them whom it was and have them make a big deal about it, but she wasn't going to bother now. One, she didn't need either of the Vega sisters riding on her tail about it. Two, she didn't need Tori trying to steal him away from her, which she practically did with Beck. And three, paparazzi was the last thing she wanted with them dating and even those agitating teen magazines saying anything about their relationship.
A girl like Jade and a guy like James was certainly no every day relationship. Especially with each of them being how they were; James incredibly narcissistic and egotistical, while Jade was more a rough edge kind of girl that bit your nose off if you looked at her funny; certainly an odd pair.
"Come on! Tell!" Cat whined, but only to play along. Once again, they shared a smile before Jade glanced around.
"Hm, let me think about it: no; because if I tell you, you'll pry and get in my face. So no." She boxed up the rest of her lunch and stuffed it in her bag. "I have to get to class. Have fun planning Prome." She smirked at Tori, before stalking off and leaving them wordless.
There was some truth her words; they would mostly likely pry and get in her face. And she had a feeling that they would be convinced that it was just to get back at Beck, which it absolutely wasn't.
The idiots were so convinced her and him were meant to be together, when Jade was not. With the dynamic they had been dealing with for nearly three years, they would hardly have lasted another day, let alone an entire YEAR more.
Jade stalked in to get her second round of books, when she strained her ears to hear a side-conversation, eyes narrowing. She'd heard two names: One Direction and Big Time Rush. She was intrigued enough.
She halted her steps, tilting her head down too look occupied, while she sneakily listened.
"One Direction is so hot! And they're such good singers." One of them gushed and Jade scowled in disgust. She had never been fond of One Direction, even more so to the fact that James and his band were adversaries with them, so fawning fan girls were the LAST things she desired to listen to an abundance of.
"NO WAY! UCK! I love Big Time Rush!" The other one started in and they began fighting and at one point, Jade felt she had to interject, because one of them was flat out wrong.
"One Direction is OBVIOUSLY more talented than Big Time Rush! And hotter too! And WAY more popular!" One of them said as if they knew what they were talking about, so Jade just HAD to get up in her face.
She was blonde and annoying, and clearly an idiot. "Hey Blondie, here's a quick lesson for you. Popularity has ZERO to do with substance and quality of music. One Direction IS a band of auto-tuned idiots. And for your information, there's two types of British people: stunningly attractive and ugly, and the five of them CLEARLY fit into the latter!"
But while the blonde looked frightened that Jade had approached her, she did manage to say and rile her more: "You say they're auto-tuned! What about James from Big Time Rush? He's totally auto-tuned!"
The enraged girl grabbed her by the throat and threw her up against the nearest locker, pressing her threateningly against the metal door. "Say that again, I dare you!" Jade hissed, eyes flaring in madness.
This girl was just FULL of bad luck - not only having picked at Jade's boyfriend's band, but her boyfriend alone. Must have been some karma that sent her to a place like Jade West's bad side.
From a decent distance away, Lane was observing on the sidelines and his eyes bugged out when he saw Jade pressing the girl up against the locker and squeezing her hand so tightly around her throat, he sincerely doubted she was managing ANY air through her wind pipe. He NEEDED to intervene. He leapt forward, racing into the scene, while calling: "Jade! Put her down!" And grabbed Jade by the shoulders to steer her away from the girl and possibly save the blonde further from her wrath, while Jade continued to hyperventilate in anger.
"Jade…" Lane said slowly, trying to catch her attention head on. "JADE!" He finally managed her attention, getting her to look straight at him, eye contact and everything. "Why were you choking that poor girl up against a locker?" He sighed, raising an eyebrow. This wasn't the first time he'd called Jade out on anything - his sigh was more full of exasperation from the repetition than anything.
Jade crossed her arms, digging her heels in with her reasoning. "She was speaking absolute lies."
Lane sighed once more. "Jade, even if she is, that doesn't mean you have the right to nearly kill her."
"Does so," She grumbled, though under her breath.
The counselor looked at her seriously, raising his eyebrows. "This is the fifth time this month that either Sikowitz or I have caught you trying to harm someone else."
That evoked a massive reaction out of the girl and her eyes flared. "That coconut drinking son of a -"
"JADE!" Lane spoke sharply once again, cutting her off and crossing his arms. "You know we don't tolerate that kind of language in Hollywood Arts."
She analyzed him carefully with her gaze, clasping her wrists unhappily. "How did you know I was going to end that off in a profanity, hm?" She questioned matter-of-factly, growing more irritated with the situation by the second. If she hadn't known Lane as well as she did, he probably would have phoned either her father or her mother just to rat her out; but she knew that the man was particularly afraid of her along with the rest of the staff and by no means wanted to get on her bad side.
Sometimes it paid to be intimidating to EVERYONE.
Lane narrowed his eyes. "Do we have to rehash what you wrote in my son's book?!" His voice rose slightly in remembrance. Now, he had his son asking not only his mother, but him as well, about Jade's usage of 'colorful language' in the child's book. Innocence was seemingly a virtue that Jade allowed no child to have.
Jade squared her shoulders, pursing her lips and glancing off to the side. "No." She answered just as sharply as he had earlier.
"Fantastic." Lane exhaled. "I can't keep just letting it go, Jade. It's not fair to the rest of the students here - or the ones you've scarred." He added in afterthought, grimacing at the smirk that touched her face at that add in. "So I am going to have to punish you."
"With what?" Jade asked, any smugness fading from her face. Get punished? Her father would freak! She wouldn't even be able to leave the house to ask James to Prome, and definitely not go with him! Ugh, this lotion-obsessed idiot always had to get in her way.
Based on the worried expression that overcame Jade's face, Lane felt that it wasn't necessary to make it an incredibly strict punishment; it was her nature, after all. Sadly, Lane had met her family; yikes. "Jade, I want you to assist Tori and the others on the Prome committee."
Jade's face fell and screwed up. Prome committee? He couldn't be serious? He was basically GIVING her the opportunity to try and screw up Prome again. "You are aware who you're assigning to help 'Prome' committee, right?" Had he forgotten what she had attempted to do to Tori's Prome last year? Had that not been nearly bad enough?
Lane exhaled. "Yes, Jade; I know. But it's either this or suspension."
"I'd rather take suspension," She muttered.
"What was that Jade?" He asked, sending her a look.
Jade plastered on a fake smile. "Of course, Lane; I'd be thrilled to help Tori and her little Prome-planning friends! Nothing would make my day brighter than wasting time on an expensive day of pretentious people and sparkly, nauseating dresses!"
"That's what I thought you said." Lane returned the smile in a show of authority. "Now, Prome committee meets after school until six, show up or you will get suspended." He forewarned.
She sighed. "Fine, whatever." She was not looking forward to this.
[OoOoOoO]
Jade completely ditched last period to occupy the Janitor's closet, she wasn't in the best mood to deal with the tech-y geeks in her class. She turned over a garbage can and hoisted herself up on it, pulling out her Pearphone and scrolling through her texts. She flicked over James' icon and pressed call, holding the phone to her ear and waiting impatiently.
James wasn't really preoccupied, other than spending some time gaming with Carlos; but that was sadly disrupted by a vibrating in his pocket. He glanced towards his Latino friend to inform him of this. "I'm getting a call!" He spoke insistently.
Carlos didn't even spare him a glance. "Yeah? So? We've nearly unlocked this new achievement!" He whined; leaning closer and rapidly pushing buttons on his controller, seemingly unfazed by James' news.
He rolled his eyes and pressed the pause in the middle of Carlos' shot, causing a massive reaction as he had a little spazz attack. James got up and tugged his phone out for the checking, seeing it was Jade. Well, if he knew Jade at all by now, he really knew she hated waiting, so he quickly evacuated the room to answer. "Hey, babe." He immediately greeted, examining the time more closely and furrowing his eyebrows. "Why're you calling? Aren't you still in class?"
She was relieved when he picked up. "Oh, I ditched. I figured I can't possibly get in anymore trouble than I already am in."
He paused on the other line for a second. "Wait, what did you do?" Is that why she was calling him? She'd got in some kind of predicament or something?
"Calm your pants, it's nothing big. I got stuck on Prome committee for nearly beating up a few kids." She replied as if it were nothing.
His eyes widened, shifting from side to side in thought. He understood she was violent and avidly used threats, albeit over used them, but she'd actually gotten in trouble this time? Usually that one guy didn't really punish her too severely. "So what's this mean?" And then the full information sunk into his brain. "And what's Prome?"
"It means, that I won't be able to see you this afternoon until latest at six." She exhaled, avoiding the later question for a reason.
"You're going to miss our evening!" James protested into the phone, frowning. He, the guys, and all of their girls were going to go out and make an evening group date. "Or at least the beginning of it."
"I'll catch up." She insisted, shrugging it off. There wasn't much she could do about this. It's not like she wanted to be suspended for a few days and have to make up all of the work. It was a lot of visual things she'd have to come in for and that was a lot more time than she wanted to devote towards it. She'd deal with stupid, unnecessary Prome committee until Prome was over. It was only the week. "Just text me where you are and I'll drive and meet you guys."
"Besides, there's something I want to ask you later anyway." The brunette smirked on her end, satisfied with his next reaction. This somewhat addressed his question, but she seemed to have sidestepped that one pretty cleverly.
James gasped slightly, growing a little anxious. "Like what?! What do you want to ask me?!" He was /maybe/ wanting to know a little too much now. He didn't sit well with suspense. " - This is a GOOD question, right?" He asked a little apprehensively, knowing his girlfriend could be a little satanic at times.
Jade rolled her eyes at his assumption. "It's good, don't worry. Well, depending on your answer." She added in to tease him, lips quirking. "Well, my mind is numb from the lecture, so what's up? Doing anything I'd consider interesting?"
He glanced out his door, seeing Carlos as he began to bounce up and down on the couch unhappily, growing impatient. "Well, I'm actually watching Carlos be a little spastic over the fact I made us stop playing video games to talk to you." He grinned a little. "Is that considered interesting?"
She snorted. "He's bouncing? What a baby. Sounds like Cat; she bounces all of the time. This is why I'm glad we hooked them up." About two months ago, they'd taken their two friends on a double date. It'd gone successfully, and they'd started to see each other. "They're annoyingly alike. They'll get each other. Opposite don't attract in this instance."
"You consider us opposites?" James asked curiously.
"Completely. Other than the attractive and talented factors, we're very different. Personality wise, intelligence wise, things like that. Not that I mind - I like the little difference we have." Jade added fondly, smiling smally to herself.
"So when you say 'intelligence wise' - is that you calling me dumb?!" James demanded, the bipolar part of him kicking in to cause a little mischief. He was so incredibly sensitive regarding his intelligence.
She bit her lip irritability, searching the room for a way to answer that. "Wow, look at the time, I /just/ realized that we were having this HUGE camera breakdown lecture, going over the frame-by-frame's, you know, that kind of odd tech-y thing. I REALLY need to get to that. I'll talk to you later, James."
He was SO not okay with that abrupt exit! Now he really wanted to know. "Jade! That's so not cool! Are you completely - "
"Bye!" She spit out quickly and flicked the end button quickly on her Pearphone, slumping forward in relief. Whenever they got into his intelligence differences with her - it never ended well. Truthfully, he wasn't the brightest bulb, but sometimes he had these incredibly intuitive moments, so he was a walking surprise. She didn't mind the different in their intelligence - honestly.
The brunette ran her fingers through her hair in agitation. How the HELL would she ever manage to withstand Vega and her Prome committee? It'd be a miracle if she didn't slaughter her..
[OoOoOoO]
"Okay, EVERYONE, it's ONE week until Prome weekend!" Tori announced, pacing back and forth sternly in front of the group of girls. It was funny, because there was the larger cluster of overzealous females on one side and then there was the few barren rows that seated on female, and that was Jade. "And we STILL don't have a musical guest! Any suggestions?!" She demanded in panic, a distressed expression on her face.
They NEEDED good music! They couldn't lean back on Hollywood Arts kids - they wanted to ENJOY Prome, not have to entertain the guests! That was the whole point - it was a night off for full-fledged fun, dancing, and romance.
"One Direction!" One of them chimed in, but immediately regretted it when she saw the way Jade looked at her. It just so happens that THAT was the blonde talking her jaw off about the band versus Big Time Rush. Her luck was so incredibly poor.
Tori sighed heavily and flapped her arms down to her sides. "Brenda, we've gone over this at LEAST fifteen times! One - Direction - is - taken - by - Cortines. Do you or do you not, GET THAT?!" She practically shouted at her.
Jade was impressed by the chutzpah - it was so seldom that Vega got this aggressive unless she was really worked up about something. Abrasion was typically Jade's sole forte.
'Brenda' slunk back in her chair. "I get it.." She muttered, seeking the comfort of her idiot friends while she did so.
Suddenly all of the girls erupted in hurried suggestions, suggesting things that ranged from 'Black Veil Brides' oddly, all the way to '5 Seconds of Summer'. It was quite the variety in crowd.
Jade felt like her head was going to slow if she was forced to listen to anymore of this ABSOLUTE disgrace. She clutched her fingers to the side of her head, massaging her temple with haste. Each suggestion was just making the burden of being quiet heavier, so then she said it:
"EVERYBODY SHUT UP!" in her trademark fashion that usually achieved silence in mere seconds. Voices /instantly/ quieted and mouths closed, all eyes falling to the Goth. "You sound like - no, you ARE absolute idiots for suggesting such terrible ideas. Frankly, none of them would be worth coming here ANYWAY."
Tori took a seat in a foldable chair, they were met in the Blackbox after all and she WAS in the front. She was the leader here and she'd nearly gone bonkers when Lane had informed her that Jade was going to join the Prome team. She'd objected, explaining to Lane all the charades and hoops that she had, had to leap through to pull that off for the school, but Lane insisted it was simply an appropriate punishment.
He'd told her: "Don't put her in charge of anything big, that she could ruin for you. Just have her do small tasks that let me know that she's actually doing some work."
But still, Tori was leery to put her in charge of anything - whether it be the dance floor or something as trivial as streamers or balloons for the event. Her subconscious was SCREAMING at her not to say what she was about to say, not open her mouth and ask her this challenging, defiant question, but she did so anyway.
"Well, /Jade/, if you hate everyone else's suggestions, do /you/ have any?" She smiled, a very plastic curve of her lips.
Jade stared at her like she was the largest idiot in the entire world. "Are you KIDDING ME?! Do /I/ have a suggestion?! Are you INSANE?! Why on earth, if I knew any ways to get anyone, would give YOU a suggestion, for something as stupid as this dumb, worthless, UNNECESSARY Prome?! HOW STUPID DO YOU THINK I - " And then she stopped, her rampage that was making girls curl up together in protective groups halted.
A big, whopping, beautiful idea made its way into her face.
Her angry expression dissipated entirely and she blinked once, before setting her gaze right - on - Tori. Now /her/ lips curved upwards. "I /do/ have a suggestion, actually. Would you care to hear?"
Tori exchanged glances with the girls on the other side of the room, leaning back with a baffled expression. " - Sure?" She offered in response, hesitantly.
She turned fully towards the girls, quirking her single pierced eyebrow with that same sardonic smirk. "Big Time Rush?"
[OoOoOoO]
AN: And THAT, my friends, is part one of Prome. I'm think there'll be three to four parts, depending on how long I want to stretch this out, but expect something along those lines! Originally I wanted to make this into a one-shot, but I've found FAR too many ways to expand this into something a lot cuter and a lot more than just how I envisioned it initially.
Thank you for taking the time to read, and remember:
Reviews are my life; don't kill me.
