On the corner of a random sidewalk in Manhattan, a blue police box rippled into reality. At first, there was no indication of anyone in there. A curious pigeon landed on the box. Suddenly, a loud scuffling came from within, the doors of the box opened, and the blue-eyed occupant popped his head out. The pigeon chirped, and the man looked up.

"Hello, pigeon," said the man, sweeping his brown locks of hair from his face. "Do you happen to know where I can find the Manhattan Library? I'm the Doctor, by the way."

The pigeon stared at him silently.

With a frown, the Doctor said "I guess what they say about New Yorkers keeping to themselves are true," and walked down the street in search of the library, his velvet coat billowing behind him. The Doctor looked like a true 18th century British gentleman, which made him look ridiculous among 21st century Americans. The Doctor didn't seem to notice though.

After 20 minutes of walking the Doctor decided to ask for directions, and tapped the shoulder of a man who was arguing on the phone. The stranger took one look at the Doctor, and almost shrieked.

"Get away from me, you weirdo!" he said, and nearly got ran over while running away.

The Doctor stood still in confused silence for a few seconds, noting to himself to ask his companion Lucie to drop off the library book next time. This sort of thing didn't happen to her, for some reason.

The Doctor kept on walking. At some point, the stores and landmarks looked odder and odder, and became downright unfamiliar (had Manhattan had some remodeling done?). He kept on getting odd looks, especially when he began walking over a bridge (the view of the water was nice, though. He'd have to take Lucie boating some time). Eventually, after what felt like hours walking, the Doctor began to think he'd definitely made a wrong turn.

"Well, at least Lucie won't have to know about this. I'd never hear the end of it," said the Doctor.

"I can assure you that you definitely won't," said a voice behind him. The Doctor turned to see Lucie glaring at him,.

"Hello!" said the Doctor. "I was just about to find the library!"

"Don't worry, I already returned the book you forgot to bring with you, you clumsy oaf," said Lucie.

The Doctor furrowed his brow, and said "Oh. Well, thank you. What would I do without you?"

Lucie just shook her head at him. "By the way, you do know you're not in Manhattan?"

The Doctor's mouth dropped open, and he looked around.

"It appears I'm in the Bronx," said the Doctor. He turned to Lucie with a sheepish grin.

"I just walked several miles to find you. So, first we're going to find someplace for me to sit down. Then, we're going to talk about .how you should learn how to use the bloomin' road signs" said Lucie.
