Without any words of explanation, Hermione handed Bella a sealed envelope. Curious and uncertain what to expect, Bellatrix cautiously opened the letter and began to read.

My Dearest Bellatrix,

I'm so sorry I ever caused you to doubt it. Let me speak plain, so there is no more uncertainty concerning my feelings for you. Bella... Every time I see your imperfect, beautiful face, I am overcome with how very much in love with you I am. Your tempestuous dark eyes, your sensuous pink lips, your unruly ebony hair... And now I am running out of words. I love you. I love everything about you, I know all that you've done and all that's been done to you, and I couldn't love you more if I tried. I don't know if you believe me yet, but I promise to show you every day for as long as you'll let me.

To say that Bellatrix was shocked at the content of the letter would be the understatement of the decade. She was left utterly speechless, one of the remaining pieces of her heart breaking at the care shown to her by this strange, brilliant young woman who was so full of goodness. And in this moment, looking back into those dark topaz eyes, she very much doubted that Hermione was capable of lying. Bellatrix captured her lips in a deep, soft kiss that left both women breathless.

"You're impulsive, bossy, and a complete swot sometimes," Bellatrix said quietly when they parted. "You are the the most stupid, foolish, idealistic, and bravest person I have ever known, because you care about me. I'm quite hazardous to your heath - anyone's, really. But I am...immensely grateful that you've put up with me."
