He'd died. Again.
Well, not really. The Angel had touched him and he'd been zapped back in time. The Doctor couldn't come back to get him, he'd said as much before, back in the graveyard.
There'd be no rescue this time, no dramatic return to life, like every other time he'd been killed. There was no one coming to save him. So he'd live out the rest of his days alone. Without Amy.
Rory closed his eyes at the memory of Amy. He could've done it, if Amy was with him. It would've been okay. But he supposed it was better this way. Now, she had nothing to tie her down and she could travel with the Doctor forever. It was better this way. It would be all right.
"Everything will be fine," he said aloud.
No matter how many times he repeated the words to himself, they still tasted like a lie.
Two weeks had passed. Rory had found an apartment to live in and had gotten a job at the local hospital. They'd been astounded by his knowledge of medicine and had taken him on straight away. It would have to do.
Rory heard a knock on the door. He dragged himself up and trudged slowly to the door.
Nothing could have prepared him as he opened the door and found Amy. Her cheeks were streaked with dark lines, tear tracks, he realized. She looked up and her eyes lit up.
"Rory."
"How-" He was cut off as she launched herself at him, collapsing into him. She began to sob and he could only wrap his arms back around her to keep her from falling to the floor.
"You came," his voice shaking. "I didn't think the Doctor would let you."
"It wasn't his choice to make," she whispered back fiercely.
"But you didn't know that the Angel would send you back to me," he answered, his voice still disbelieving. "You could've been sent to any time. But you took that risk."
"It was worth it."
"But…why?"
Amy finally looked back up at him. He had been so sure that he would never see her beautiful face again, and yet here she was.
"Don't you remember?" she asked. "Don't you remember what I told you?" Rory didn't answer. She leaned forward to kiss him. "Together, or not at all."
I absolutely loved Amy and Rory. The Angels Take Manhattan was one of the saddest episodes of all. But, I think that Amy ultimately made the right choice. Thanks for reading!
