Disclaimer: I don't own Madame Pince.
A/N: this is just a crazy theory I haveā¦.
Madame Pince is the Hogwarts Librarian. It's true. The students she hovers over think of her as nothing more as the librarian. Someone to avoid angering. But never to concern themselves to much.
They could never dream that she might be the explanation for all of the unexplained events of Hogwarts.
They could never dream that she is the reason that Professor Dumbledore knows all that he does.
Since an early age she has watched people, examined them, torn them down and built them back together all in her mind.
Nothing in the school escapes her notice, or her attention. She knows how is dating whom, who is afraid of the dark, and who are afraid of nothing.
She is the spy of Professor Dumbledore.
Her favorite year was Harry Potter's second year. He and his friends had been up to something. That much she was sure of. And the time he came in the library in his invisibility cloak, well that was impressive.
Oh yes. She knows about Harry Potter's invisibility cloak. Professor Dumbledore walked by the library on his way to place it in Potters dorm. Her sharp eyes had caught Harry's name on the slip of paper affixed to the cloak.
It was because of her attention that Professor Dumbledore realized that Potter had been visiting the Mirror of Erised.
Indeed, over her One-Hundred and Fifty years of service, she has saved many lives.
It was she that told that girl to use a mirror to get around corners, so she could avoid being killed by that monstrous snake.
It was she that showed Hermione Granger the book that talked about the snake, and plumbing.
Ahh, Hermione Granger. She would do well in the library. But she has no ability to keep her thoughts to herself.
Madame Pince had her apprentice picked out. Oh she did. Until he had to go haring off and become a hero.
Neville Longbottom. Always in the background, much like she had been.
Yes, he would have done well.
It is a pity when people go for an adventure and come back self assertive. Unafraid of the mistakes that could be made.
Yes, she was known for looking at decisions from every angle, sizing them up.
It was the same thing she did with people.
She never did leave the library. It was in a chair behind her desk that she left.
And so, Madame Pince, Master Spy and Librarian, died, ready to give her post to the next that was worthy.
