an- woah did i write an actual au story with a plot and everything? you bet it is. is it a good plot? debatable. enjoy.
disclaimer: i do not own these three characters.
They've known each other for about a month, but she's probably the closest thing he's ever had to a close friend.
The shop is old and rusty, and people seem to find that charming or homely or something. He doesn't really see it- but he's rather boring and doesn't really see how anything can be exciting.
That's when the customer starts coming in.
Amy greets him as the old bell on the door clangs.
He's rather odd, wearing a tweed coat and bright red bow-tie. His hair is a wreck, and he's got a smile like he knows something she doesn't.
"Hello!" he says, cheerfully, and he goes into a corner and reads a book from the shelf they never dust because of the weird crack on it that they swear whispers and glows when they lock up.
He finishes the long novel within fifteen minutes.
They whisper about him from the counter.
He comes once a month, always on their shifts, and reads exactly eleven books. It takes him about two hours. Then he buys one. Never stopping for conversation.
They don't try to communicate with the bow-tie man until Rory's last month of school, when he knows he won't be working at the shop much longer, and they've just started dating. Since everything's been going great, they guess they might as well win this silent battle too.
"Who are you?" Amy starts, a bit too excited, as bow-tie man buys a book called Summer Falls, which, as far as Amy knows, is a children's book from the nineteen fifties, and not one that sold well.
"She means," says Rory, "what's your name, and why do you like this shop so much?"
Bow-tie guy smiles. "I'm the Doctor. I don't know your names. I like this shop because- well, I don't know. Going to this shop all the time puts some stability in my life, I suppose."
"Just the Doctor?" Rory asks, disbelieving. "I'm Rory. Soon to be a nurse."
"Amy. Secret kissogram."
"Not so secret if you tell it to a complete stranger," says the man called the Doctor.
"Well, you're not a stranger, are you?" she asks. "I see you all the time. You're always looking at that crack on the shelf."
"In fairness, it is a bit creepy," chimes Rory.
"So, Amy and Rory whatever-the-hell-your-surnames-are," the Doctor says, in a tone like he's known them forever even though they've only held a conversation this one time, and he doesn't even know their surnames. "Do you want to see the stars?"
Amy raises an eyebrow and Rory squirms.
"Not- no. I mean literally."
"How? Isn't that sort of impossible?"
"I have a spaceship."
"Seriously," Rory says, frustrated.
"Yeah!"
"Even if you do have a spaceship, which I doubt, we kind of have jobs."
"Did I mention it's a time machine too?"
And after a solid hour of convincing, they walk into a box that's actually another dimension, and it's all true.
"Welcome aboard."
"Excited yet?"
"Definitely."
this was written while watching sharknado, so i'm sorry for how dumb this is, i really am.
reviews make my day.
