The damn tree had gotten in the way and he had fallen.
The biggest branch had caused a deep, open gash in the calf of his left leg.
He had a fever, an infection was starting.
His brother was gone at the store so the only one there was his father.
He felt a gentle, warm, calloused hand touch his forehead. Then a cool wash cloth replaced the hand and he instantly felt a little better.
"Easy there Sammy, just relax."
Even though he and his father fought like cats and dogs, he suddenly was thankful for the comfort that his father gave him.
