Just a short drabble I wrote. Hope you enjoy!

The memories of him have started to fade.

She supposes this isn't unusual— it has been a long time. But that doesn't make her feel any better when she wakes up, and can't quite remember how it felt when he kissed her.

She hates this—this "unremembering." She hates how some memories have begun to vanish so slowly, so that when they completely disappear, she won't notice at all.

She won't notice that she can't quite think of the way he smelled, or how his hair hung in his eyes. She won't notice that she can no longer remember the way he laughed at his own jokes a little too loudly, or how he cracked his knuckles when was nervous.

She can, however, already notice how his face is being replaced by another. This, is too obvious even for her to miss.

And the fact that she can no longer remember his face perfectly, hurts her far worse than anything.

She knows there was a time when she could recall the way his dimples appeared the moment he began to smile at her.

She was able to bring to mind his brown eyes, and the small ridge on his nose.

But now, these details are just out of reach, and she needs a photograph to pull them in.

These details have been replaced by the face of a man who claims he wants nothing to do with her.

By a man who claims he doesn't even like her.

By a man whose smile comes all too rarely.

By a man with piercing blue eyes that she swears can read her mind.

And all of this, makes her wish she could remember her husband more clearly, instead of only thinking about the man who she sometimes wonders if she hates more than loves.
