I wake up to noises, specifically that of movement, a woman speaking in Japanese, and wheels. I reached into my pocket for my phone, turning it on to find the time. After my eyes adjusting to the light I see that the screen read '10:44 A.M'. I smiled, my internal clock was starting to get on track. After grabbing my bags from the overhead compartment it was stored in I made my way to the front of the plane. As I exit I see my mother pacing back and forth in the terminal. I put on a smile and approach. After the apparency of her not noticing me I call out in Japanese "Hello, mother." She looks up from the ground and smiles, "Hello, Luna." She responses in English. We walk out of the airport and she asks "Are you excited?" I respond "Not particularly." Immediately shutting down her attempt at conversation, or so I thought. "Well, you can make it to the house by yourself right?". I grimace, "Yeah, I can walk 30 miles in an unfamiliar town, barely able to read any street signs, not enough yen to take a cab or an Uber if they even have those here." She starts looking around and soon enough she hails a taxi, and looks at me expectantly. After they roll down the window I ask them "What are the fares?" He responsed "720 yen to start with, and add on 933 for every kilometer." I turn and say to my mother " It's about five hundred thousand yen." She digs around in her purse and pulls out a wallet, after handing me fifty ten thousand yen bills she starts to head down the road. I enter the cab and give the driver the address. After about half an hour we reach the house. I pay him and take the change, after counting the bills out I saw I had forty-nine thousand, three hundred sixty-one yen. I put the yen in my wallet and took out the key. Entering the house it appeared to be empty, and I mean empty. There is no furniture. I pull out my phone to see I received a text. Looking at the text it reads "The truck with the furniture I ordered should by the in about an hour, maybe you could go outside. Mingle with the neighbors? -Mom 3." I snort. 'That's not going to happen.' I think to myself. After fully exploring the house (rather a simple floor plan, entrance room is a perfect square, coat hooks to the right of the entrance, the left half the room is a kitchen. At the opposite end of the entrance is a hallway with 2 doors, 2 bedrooms. Each bedroom has it's own shower/bath) I hear the doorbell ringing. I call out "A minute." And make my way to the door. After looking through the peephole I see a pink haired girl holding a box. I open the door and say "How can I help you?" She suddenly looks very nervous. She says "Well, uh, I saw that you just moved in and thought that I should do something for you, but, uh, I'm not really very good at cooking so I called one of my friends and asked them to help me make a cake for you, so, here it is." she says holding up the box, squirming a little. I smile and say "A cake." She responses "Uh, yes." "For me." "Yes." she says, seeming to gain a bit of confidence. "She's a really good cook." She adds. "Well, do you want to come in?" She looks a bit surprised, but nods. I move out of the doorway and she walks in. I offer to take her coat, and she hands it to me. "By the way, I never got your name." "My name is Kaname Madoka, what's yours?" "Luna Grey."
Ok, so I finished writing this at like, midnight. Mainly because I did a shit ton of studying for it. Japanese taxi fares, flight times, etc. Please tell me in the reviews if I screwed anything up. Thanks for reading!
