It was a cold day in May at east high.
Gabriella was walking down the hall looking for her locker. When a mystery guy showed up by her side.
"Hi" the guy said, as Gabriella got a shock…
"Ryan? What do you want? " Gabriella asked.
"Look, I saw you dancing the other day, and I was wondering.. Since me and Shar doesn't really have the strongest bond… if we could go together and dance at the prom?" Ryan asked and caused Gabriella to gasp.
She hated dancing with a partner! She always started fumbling with her feet and her hands always slipped her partners. Still she was longing for a perfect guy to dance with.
"Look Ryan, it's not that I don't wanna go with you… but I'm not really a partner dancer. If you know what I mean," she sighed as she closed her locker and walked away with her books pressed against her chest.
Later that day it was time for lunch. She was walking with her tray when her best friend showed up.
"Why are we so sad today?" Taylor asked as she sat next Gabriella.
Gabriella didn't really say anything; she just shook her head and took a bite of her pizza.
"You still don't have a date, do you?" Taylor asked again…"Gabi! Come on, this is so stupid! You can dance with any guy, just over win this stupid fear!" Taylor said as she pushed her tray and walked away.
Is she right? Is this really so stupid? Should I find Ryan and accept his invitation? Gabriella sighed and smashed her head to her tray.
In that moment she heard some girls giggling, when she turned around she saw Sharpay and her puppets laughing at her. Sharpay winked to Troy as she walked towards Gabriella.
"Hello Montez," she said "I heard you still don't have a date to prom?" she giggled.
"I'm not going to prom, Sharpay." Gabriella snarled.
"Oh, is it because you cannot dance with boys?" she laughed at Gabriella.
Gabriella go tears in her eyes and ran away, with the whole school now knowing her fear. Everyone stared at her as she ran through the cafeteria. She could feel the eyes watching her every move.
She ran and ran until she reached her secret hideout on the roof. Here she sat and stared on the grey sky. It was very rare the weather was like this. Normally it was shiny, but now it looked like it was about to rain.
For her it felt like forever before someone came up to her. She didn't even hear the steps; she just sat and cried in her arms.
"Are you okay? It was quite something that happened down there." The male voice asked her.
"Go away!" she cried out.
The guy didn't obey; he walked over to the bench where Gabriella was sitting. "You shouldn't feel so bad about this, it's a fear many girls and boys are dealing with."
"It's just so ironic it's me, the school dork!" Gabriella cried as she looked up and saw Troy Bolton sitting next to her. She couldn't believe her eyes. This airhead was actually caring about her.
"Maybe, but one thing is for sure. If you want it to be a problem, then it is a problem!" he told her with care in his voice, "If you let me… I'll help you". Gabriella looked up, showing her black mascara lines under her eye. "You promise?" she was very surprised in herself. Was she actually going to trust Troy Bolton?
"I promise… look just meet me after school at the gym okay?"
"Uhm…" Gabriella didn't really know what to say "okay." She surprised herself when that word came out of her mouth.
Troy smiled at her. "oh, and remember your dancing outfit!"
