Illya couldn't believe it. He had to blink his eyes and look again. Yes, it was true. He was on a farm, but none of the animals were behaving normally.
He had to duck as two winged pigs flew right for his head, the second one carrying a couple of daisies in its mouth. On a nearby fence, a bull sat crowing like a rooster. "Cock a doodle doo! Cock a doodle doo!" Why the massive weight of the huge animal didn't crush the fence, Illya had no idea.
On the ground, chickens crept about bleating like sheep and eating the grass, which was blue. A few feet away, a trio of goats clucked and nibbled corn from the ground.
"Where am I? What is happening?" The Russian felt a rising panic as he gazed around at the bizarre scene.
"Illya! Snap out of it!" He blinked again and was no longer on the crazy farm but was in a tiny, bare cell with Napoleon.
"You ate those cookies, didn't you?" Napoleon's tone was accusatory.
"What cookies?"
"The only thing we've been given to eat in the last twenty-four hours. I knew they were laced with LSD. That's why I didn't eat them, but you just couldn't resist, could you?"
"Never mind that." Chagrined, Illya's tone was brusque. "The important thing is that we find a way out of here before they return."
By patiently feeling their way along the walls of their cell, the two UNCLE agents finally found a loose brick, and by persistently attempting to dislodge it using a loose nail they'd found lying on the floor of the cell, they were eventually able to create a hole large enough for both of them to squeeze through.
"We are free now, it is true," Illya said. "But without weapons, we are helpless."
"Not for long," Napoleon replied. Spying a nearby security guard, he attacked the man from behind, rendering him unconscious and relieving him of his weapon.
Now armed, the two men walked until they arrived at a bus station. From the posted signs, they were able to deduce that they were still in New York but were a long way from Del Floria's.
"How shall we get back with no bus fare?" asked Illya.
"Excuse me, miss." Napoleon turned to a young woman standing near them and gave her one of his most charming smiles. "My partner and I traveled here from out of town for a convention, but we were just mugged a short time ago. If you'd be so kind as to loan us bus fare, I'll make sure you're repaid as soon as we reach our destination."
"Oh, you poor things!" the woman gushed sympathetically.
Several minutes later, the two men were on their way back to Headquarters. Napoleon happily chatted away with their benefactor while Illya looked out the window at the passing scenery. He saw a couple of birds fly past and tried to imagine them pink and with pigs' snouts and tails.
