Chapter 1: The Briefing

Cain knew too well what their mission was this day, and it had little to nothing to do with Globus Scain. Graves was in sort of a dilemma: he and another Inquisitor had been fighting for some time, and it had finally gone to bloodshed. Cain and his kill-team had hunted the other Inquisitor's acolytes for some time, and now there were reportedly only three left, the Inquisitor's closest and most hardened. However, Cain and his team had proven time and again to hold the upper hand, and now there were only those few left.

Cain followed Solon to the ship's bridge, were the rest of his team, or most of it, were waiting. Solon sat down in her place at the control-panel, and steered the Joyful Resiliance on the right course towards the last known location of the Inquisitor.
"Solon, we have just received reports on Inquisitor Koras location." The remark came from the team's adept, Markus, who was sitting near a datapad, pushing some buttons and apparently reading something that probably did not interest Cain all that much.
"Solon, the ship is eager to get on its way." One of Solons tech-priest "friends", Flavius Myo-80 sat right next to her and was helping with the calibrations.

Cain took a seat behind the pair and next to their assassin. Cain had not known him or the adept all that long, but from what he knew he was a former member of the Siraxian Death Legion, named Bane. The Siraxian Death Legion was a small army of convicts that more or less took over a penal world, and Bane had been one of their top assassins. Now he sat back, not helping and not hindering, which was wise, considering that he was not trained for flight missions but ground work.

Cain lit a new lho-stick and started up the screen in front of his seat.
"Solon, the engine needs some…", but the problem was fixed before he had the chance to finish his sentence. He did not like working on the bridge: with two tech-priests, his role was almost non-existent.
"Opening the warp engine, prepare for the jump."
He left the rest of the calibrations to Solon and her friend. He removed his old lho-stick that was already out and put a new against his lips. A rift in reality opened and the ship entered the warp.

"There, now we only need to wait", said Solon while turning in her chair "Time for the briefing." She stood up and went over to a holographic screen: with one hand she made a map open up in the center, and she zoomed in on it.
"Here", she said and put her finger on a point, on the planet of Stixisa 12, at the edge of imperial space.
"The Inquisitor and his top acolytes have been seen at this port. They have taken a submarine back and forth several times, and there have also been reports of mining gear being taken aboard the submarine. The last time the Inquisitor and his acolytes were seen boarding the submarine was one week ago and he has not returned. You must board the sub' and find out were the Inquisitor has gone and neutralize him."
"How do we board the sub?" asked the Siraxian.
"The sub goes under water during the day and is docket at night." Solon zoomed in a little more. "There is a power generator here and an armory here", she said while pointing them out.
"And here are the barracks, I recommend that you take out the power or use the armory in some maneuver, it is up to you. Just remember that any alarm triggered must be silenced fast or the Inquisitor will learn that you're coming, and then you're not going to find him as easy to deal with. Graves wants the Inquisitorial Rosetta that the target carries as proof of his death, understood?"
Everyone nodded.
