ooo

She was curled up in your lap, sleeping serenely. Her breathing was steady and rhythmic, and it calmed you down. You couldn't remember the first time you held Lavender in your arms, the first time she came to you crying over some ex-boyfriend of other. She never seemed to realize that if you were to look into a mirror at the two of you, you'd see one tear-stained face that was covering a broken heart, and you'd see one face that was a mask that had been built up for years, each new layer so much weaker than the one beneath it.

You found yourself consoling her and every time, she bounced back up and into the arms of another man who would never truly love her. She never seemed to realize that you loved her—you loved her faults, her beauty inside and out. You've seen her happy and sad, but you've never really seen her in love.

For now, the looking glass that portrays your future is just as cracked as your own lonely heart. You can't help but hope for her to catch on, that she can come to learn of the grief for her that lies inside your own soul.
