Slighted

Kaddar Illianat, soon to be Emperor of Carthak, stormed down the hallway, well as much as one with blood as royal as his could storm. He had received word not five minutes ago that his teacher had decided to take his leave of the Carthaki University, in favor of sailing away to Tortall with his former student. The moment Kaddar wished that Numair Salmalin had, in fact, died when executed, as every proper human would do, he also wished he could take it back.

He wasn't a spiteful person, not really. He just had his moments, like everyone else in the world that had ever been slighted in favor of someone more beautiful, intelligent, charming, or powerful. It only made matters worse that in his instance; it was a case of all four.

Kaddar knew he was scowling when he slammed the door to Lindhall Reed's workshop open. He also knew that he was displaying quite a bit more emotion than was really proper, considering his station. And on top of that he knew he didn't give a damn about appearances anymore.

His mild mannered teacher, no scratch that, former teacher was packing his things away in boxes when the heir to the Imperial Throne broke his door off its hinges. "I see you heard?" He said calmly, wrapping a bird's egg in tissue before nestling it on top of its brothers with a care he only displayed around his work.

Now, Kaddar had come here with every intention of discussing this rationally, well, as rationally as he could manage while beating the older man over the head with anything he could find. Unfortunately, when he saw the mage just packing his things away like nothing was changing, like he wasn't leaving the sixteen-year-old with no one to guide him (something he was going to need quite badly once the coronation was over and done with), something in him rebelled.

Which was probably why, instead of talking or bashing Lindhall's head in, Kaddar strode across the room towards him, and grabbed his shoulders, forcing the man's head up. In all fairness to him, he did manage one word before pressing his lips against the other's in frantic desperation, not to mention anger. It was probably lost to both of them though, considering the situation.

"Why?"

He never did get an answer.
