TEASER
Mister Sandman, bring me a dream! Make him the cutest that I've ever seen
Danny sat up in his bed and yawned.
Give him two lips like roses and clover, then tell him that his lonesome nights are over--
Danny hit the stop button on his clock radio.
"That's odd," he said, "I don't think I had it set to an oldies station. He looked at it, shrugged, and went on with his daily routine without giving it a second thought.
He walked downstairs.
"Morning, Danny!" his mom said, "I made you a big breakfast, because you've got a big day ahead of you."
"Oh?" Danny asked.
"Sure!" she said, "today's the day you get your score on the CAT."
"Oh," Danny said, "right."
"Oh, don't worry, Danny," she said, "I'm sure you did fine."
Yeah, right, he thought, barely touching the bacon and eggs his mother made him. Something felt off to him.
Later...
Danny had arrived at school 15 minutes late, and immediately went to the assembly.
Lancer was on stage, as was his sister, Jazz.
"I am pleased to announce that someone in this very class tied with Miz Fenton, here, for the highest score in the history of the CAT," he announced, "Her own brother, Daniel Fenton!"
"What?" Danny said aloud as a spotlight from above the stage panned onto him. He nervously walked onto the stage.
"Uh," he said, shaking Lancer's hand, "thanks?"
"I'm so proud, Danny," Jazz said, and she hugged him.
"Not in front of everyone, Jazz," he said.
She grinned and turned to face the audience.
"And this concludes the presentation of the scores," Lancer said, "you're dismissed to your regular classes."
Everyone left the auditorium.
"You know," Paulina said, passing him, and stopping, "I like a boy with brains..."
She leaned in and was going to kiss him.
"YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!" Danny yelled. He woke up, and a mechanical device on his head shattered.
"A dream?" he mused, and looked around. He saw he was in the middle of the Ghost Zone.
"More like a nightmare," he added.
