Homura x Madoka

By Nagone

Summary: This time, I'm ending this cycle.

Genre: Tragedy, Romance, Horror

Rated: M

Warnings: Character Death, Gore, Violence, Blood, Abuse

Author's Note: In this piece, Episodes 11 and 12 do not occur in the same fashion as the cannon Madoka anime. Additionally, Mami's death is different, Sayaka is triggered differently, and we see a very different Kyoko. Also, the girls, although frozen in time, are depicted as older characters, ages 17 to 19 depending on iterations. This was done to avoid placing underage characters in a particularly violent piece. Simply put, think of this as yet another iteration of Homura's time travels.

Prologue: We Definitely Didn't Meet in a Dream

Madoka dreamt of a dark haired girl struggling against an impenetrable darkness. Cogs in brilliant coppers, bronzes, gilt silver and burnished gold, tumbled across an expanse of broken buildings, windows long since shattered. A swirling black entity surrounded the girl, attacking her relentlessly.

This wasn't the first time Madoka Kaname had had this dream.

In fact, she'd had a similar dream four years prior.

She took control of the dream, banishing away the thoughts, and forced herself awake, dragging her consciousness through the depths of sleep until she opened her eyes. Madoka blinked away the last remnants of her uneasy rest, mouth feeling as if filled with cotton, and rose from bed. Had she really thought about it, she'd have realized that this morning was, indeed, the morning of her birthday, but in her drowsiness, Madoka Kaname couldn't realize the auspicious day of her birth.

She made her way to the kitchen, pouring a cool glass of water. Thoughts of her dream –more nightmare than dream, to be honest- still rolled through her head, scenes replaying every time she closed her eyes. She quickly chugged her water and broke into a fit of cought, which caused her to break the glass cup. It shattered and she jumped back, shocked awake.

Truly, Madoka had no idea of what was to come, as across the town of Mitakihara, a girl with black hair that she knew very well finished her battle with an ominous creature, one that would roil her world.
