Memorial Day

It wasn't the way they had all expected to spend their first holiday off in over four years. But no one in the waiting room dared to leave; Catherine had gone into labor nearly a full two months early. They had all clocked out last night and planned to go out and have breakfast when they heard a scream from the locker room. The team had nearly knocked each other over trying to be the first to get to her. They had all been sitting there for nearly seventeen hours waiting for word on how Cath and the baby were, but hadn't heard anything yet.

"I hope everything's okay."

"I can't believe this is happening."

"They wanted this baby so bad, I hope nothing's wrong."

"We just need to calm down."

The meaningless chatter and nervous talking was all that could be heard. Six of the seven in the room were practicing their fidgeting habits. Lindsey was the only one sitting still but the poor girl had passed out two hours before. Pacing, biting their nails nothing was helping. They were all hoping that a smiling face would soon pop through telling them everything was okay and they had a new member of their big work family.

The wedding had been beautiful; they had all been a part of it. Whether officiating, or giving away the bride or a groomsman. Watching as the maid of honor smiled as she watched her mother finally marry the love of her life.

The look on their face said they had a big announcement. When they had told everyone they were expecting, the bartender had bought the group a round and gave Catherine water. They never found out the sex of the baby, they had never asked for any specifics at all. All they ever asked the doctor was if all was well. So buying gifts had been hard but almost too much fun for a few of the team.

As each member of the group snapped out of their memories they were once again flooded with the harsh reality of the situation. At midnight exactly the doors to the birthing suites opened and the biggest smile they had ever seen burst through.

"Everyone is fine, come see the good work Cath can do."

"We going to the nursery?"

"Follow me."

Walking through the doors they were lead to the room where Catherine was sitting up in bed with a blue blanket in one arm and a pink one in the other. Smiling she spoke, "I would like to introduce you to our little bundleSSSS of joy."

"Twins, holy crap Mom. What are their names?" Lindsey had taken the words right out of everyone's mouths.

"Tell them honey."

"Since they were born at one minute till midnight on Memorial Day, I would like you to meet Liberty Ann and Justice Forell."

A few minutes passed with everyone laughing and talking about how cute the names were, But looking over at the bed were the happy family was all sitting Grissom finally spoke.

"You really are the perfect family; Catherine, Sophia I'm so happy for both of you."
