"I'm glad that you suggested this." Betty smiled into Veronica's eyes as she rested her head on the back of the seat.

Softness sparkled in her eyes through the flicking of the movie. "I'm glad that you had time for me."

Betty sighed. "I'm sorry that I have been busy Ronnie." Her lips quirked up. "But hey at least it's nothing so mysterious or dangerous. That's making progress at least."

Tightness squeezed her heart. "Don't kid about that B." Veronica spoke in a low rough voice. Her eyes couldn't mask the fear in them.

Betty sat up straight. "I'm sorry Ronnie. I very well know by now that is not a joking matter." She sighed. "Sometimes it helps with all the stress."

"You know what would help with the stress … is to stop being in dangerous mysterous situations." Veronica's eyes narrowed.

"It's my job." Betty sighed deeply.

"You are a sixteen year old high school student Betty Cooper." Veronica's rough voice pointed out. "You are a teenager for crying out loud. Your job is go to school; get an educatuon; be with your family and friends. Your job is to …." She wrapped her arms across her chest trying to prevent herself from breaking completely down.

Betty silently stared at her best friend. "I don't go looking for trouble. I don't go looking for someone to stalk or threaten me. I don't go looking …." She couldn't go on as her own chest tightened. "But, I'm not going to turn my back on finding out the truth … even if it does mean my life is on the line."

"I know that B." Veronica whispered. "I know that."

Betty lowered her eyes.

Veronica sighed. "I didn't want us to fight." Her arms unfolded and went to place them on the steeling wheel. "This was a horrible idea." She started the car. Craning her neck back to make sure she didn't hit anyone as she backed out of the space.

"I don't want to leave you." Betty whimpered.

Veronica's foot let up the gas. She looked over at her friend. "Who says that I'm taking you home?"

Betty's eyes lifted in hope.

"I just don't want to be here is all B." Veronica smiled gently. "You and I need to be able to move freely then what this car give us." She winked as she went back to backing the car out.

Betty breathed in relief as she rested her head on the back seat.

Veronica silently drove down the isle of the Drive – in.
