Lily Luna Potter: Keep The Demons At Bay
'Keep the demons at bay.'
That's what my dad always told me. Mum, James, Teddy and Al echoed that belief. I can't blame mum and dad. They had horrific experiences from the war. But I was different. However, at the same time, I was identical to the rest of my family. I had red hair and emerald green eyes, and I knew I was the perfect Gryffindor. People said I looked like my grandmother Potter. The ones that lived that long. But I wouldn't know. I never met her. What I did know was that some demons need to be faced...
It started when I caught the train to Hogwarts. It was my first time going, but I knew everyone would know me. How could they not. I was the only daughter of Harry and Ginny Potter. Stepping onto the train, I turned and waved goodbye to mum and dad. The waved back, smiling proudly. Closing the door, I started my search for a compartment. It took a good 10 minutes, but I eventually found Hugo sitting in a compartment with his best friend, Frank Longbottom and a girl I thought I recognised from the war heroes meetings that mum and dad always dragged James, Al and I too.
Upon seeing my curious expression, Hugo hastily introduced me to the girl. It turned out that I did know her, and her dads were in the same year as my father when he was at Hogwarts. She said her name was Destiny Finnigan-Thomas. I had to admit. She was very pretty, with her dark brown hair that fell down to her waist and big blue eyes. I thought I saw Hugo eyeing her up, but I may have been wrong.
Once we started chatting, I found out a bit more about her. Apparently, she was adopted from a muggle children's home but was later discovered to be a witch. She also wanted to be a Gryffindor, just like me. I had a feeling we would get on very well. We also talked to Hugo and Frank for a bit, although I zoned out after they started talking about dad. I hated it when people talked about him.
About halfway to Hogwarts my brothers and Rose (Hugo's older sister) popped their head's in. They were already in their Hogwarts uniform. Or, at least, Rose was. My brothers would probably be changing frantically about 5 minutes before we get to Hogsmede. It was then I noticed a girl and boy standing shyly behind them. Albus, noticing I has seen them, introduced them as Amy and Alex Brand. Then, being the wonderful older siblings/ cousins they were, they left us.
Hugo, who inherited his father's tact, asked them who they were named after. They just stared at him strangely. I then, bing the kind person I am, to,d them that we were all named after someone. Alex, who seemed the braver of the two, asked who were we named after. This provoked the long story about how I was named after my grandmother and Hugo and Frank were named after their grandfathers. Then we all looked at Destiny for her story. She said, while blushing heavily, that her dads thought it was Destiny that they married and adopted her, so that's what they named her. After we had all stopped laughing, Frank asked Alex and Amy which house they wanted to be in. When they said that they didn't mind, we came out with all the houses history, courtesy of Auntie Hermione.
By the time Hugo had finished Aunt Hermione's extensive description, Amy said she thought she would fit well in Slytherin. We exchanged a look at that. While there are muggle-born Slytherins, they were never chosen for any positions of power and were more likely to be bullied. Alex said he had no idea, and honestly didn't care.
Soon the train arrived at Hogsmede and everyone poured of the train. Hugo, Frank and I instantly jogged up to Hagrid, but the others hung back. I guess they had never seen anyone quite so big as Hagrid.
'Lily, Frank, Hugo!' Hagrid boomed.
'Hi Hagrid!' I grinned 'This is Destiny, Alex and Amy. You already know Hugo and Frank'.
After exchanging a few words we Hagrid, we got into the boats. I sat with Hugo, Frank and Destiny. The twins were behind us. We were all still chattering excitedly when Hagrid told us to duck. We did as he told us, and when we looked again, there was Hogwarts.
It seemed to sparkle in the moonlight, and the faint sound of chatter reached our ears. I thought about how Hogwarts would soon be my home, and sighed happily. But all too soon the boat ride was over, and we had to get out. Walking up some stairs, I saw Neville, who grinned at Frank, Hugo and I. He welcomed us and led us to a chamber. Then he left us to check if they were ready in the great hall for us. As soon as he disappeared a boy strode up to me. I recognised him instantly. His older sister Lyra was in Al's year, and was the Slytherin Queen.
He smirked, and said in a condescending tone 'So, the famous Lily Potter has come to Hogwarts!'
'Malfoy' I said.
'That's right. I'm Malfoy, Scorpius Malfoy.'
I couldn't resist.
'And I'm Bond, James Bond.'
He stared at me while all the muggle-born cracked up. I grinned, and Neville returned into the chamber. He looked in amusement at the room and told us they were ready for us in the great hall.
The great hall was beautiful. The ceiling reflected the night sky perfectly, and the architecture was so intricate it was crazy. We speed walked down the hall, surrounding the ragged old sorting hat. I remember dad telling me about his sorting. He told me he was almost out in Slytherin, and he didn't care what house I was in. But I was going to be a Gryffindor. I knew it. Because I had tried on the sorting hat once before, and it had told me I would be one of the greatest Gryffindors ever. Neville read out the first name.
'Antdon, Oliver'
A small boy stumbled forwards and placed the hat on his head. The hat yelled out 'HUFFLEPUFF' and the boy ran down to the yellow table.
After a few people 'Brand, Alex' was called forwards. He walked hurriedly to the stool, and sat ridged as the hat was placed on his head. After a minute or so, the hat yelled out 'RAVENCLAW'. He walked off to the Raven table, his head bent. Next to be called up was 'Brand, Amy'. Her sorting took a lot less time than her brothers, with the hat calling out 'SLYTHERIN' fairly quickly. Next up of the people I knew was was 'Finnigan-Thomas, Destiny'. She strolled calmly up to the stool, grinned at Neville and put the hat on her head. It instantly yelled out 'GRYFFINDOR!' Looking unsurprised, she went to sit with a boy who looked about Al's age. The next person who's name I recognised was 'Malfoy, Scorpius'. He swaggered up to the stool and put the hat on his head, obviously expecting an easy sorting. His smile slowly faded out as his sorting continued. After several minutes the hat seem to win. It yelled out 'GRYFFINDOR'.
Silence. And not the good time. Malfoy was frozen in shock, as was the rest of the school. The the whispering broke out. Harsh, cruel whispering that seemed to echo around the hall. I almost felt sorry for Malfoy. Almost, but not quite. Malfoy chucked off the hat and dashed out of the room, everyone's eyes burning into his back. I didn't know where he was going. He was an outcast. The lions wouldn't accept him, the snakes would treat him like a traitor and the eagles and badgers would stay away from the drama.
I knew my name was coming and I held my breath. I wasn't worried. I just didn't want to end up like Malfoy, ridiculed because of who my father was. I was then startled out of my revelry by a loud cheer. I glanced up, surprised. It seemed Frank too had been put into Gryffindor.
All too soon that I heard those dreaded words 'Potter, Lily'. I walked up to the stool, hearing the whispers that I had grown used too. Sitting down on the stool, I prepared myself for the little voice that would inevitably enter my head.
Then I heard it 'Another Potter! Your brothers were very difficult to sort, as were your parents. It seems you are going to be even harder. Very smart, but you don't care for subjects you don't like. Very loyal to those you love. Oh, there is ambition and a certain slyness. Only natural, of course. But what it with? Your bravery is outstanding and you have strong ideas of wrong and right. I think that decides it. Let's stick you with your brothers in 'GRYFFINDOR!' The hat shouted out the last bit for everyone to hear. An uproar of stomping feet and cheering indicated that everyone approved of my sorting. I grinned at Mcgonagall and jogged down to the Gryffindor table. To my new home.
After an amazing dinner and a slightly less amazing speech from Mcgonagall, it was time to go to the Gryffindor Common Room. Just hearing it sent shivers down my spine. Of course, I knew where it was, having been in the castle hundreds of times because of dad. But this time was different.
I wouldn't be leaving this time…
I knew both the prefects very well, as one was Roxanne Weasley and the other John Wood. As Destiny later said 'Do you actually know everyone here?'
Roxanne and John led us up the moving staircases, telling the others to jump at the disappearing step. I already knew that, but even with their warning, Frank managed to fall into it!
Finally we got there. Roxanne directed us up to the dormitories, and I dragged my tired body upstairs. Inside, I found 5 beds with my name etched upon the one nearest to the bathroom. Soon Destiny joined me and we found in delight that her bed was next to mine.
The other three girls then appeared. The introduced themselves. The first was called Amelia Boot and said she was a pure-blood. I vaguely remembered her from Ministry Functions I had been forced to attend. She had red hair, although it was cut rather scrappy way. She also has beautiful brown eyes like dark chocolate. In most ways she was fairly average looking.
The next girl was simply breath-taking. With shimmering silvery blonde hair and ice blue eyes, there was something unnatural about her, almost mystical. She reminded me of someone, but there was something wrong. She introduced herself as Rosaleen Grace and she didn't have a 'blood'. No, this girl was a veela. She also mentioned having a twin brother in Ravenclaw. I decided to keep an eye out for him. If Louis was anything to go by, he would probably be the hottest boy in school.
The final girl was a shy girl. She said her name was Abigail Green and that she was a muggle-born. Not really extraordinary in looks, she had brown eyes and hair, but seemed nice enough.
After Destiny said hi and introduced herself, I stepped forwards and was about to speak when 'Oh my Merlin, you're Lily Potter!' I stared at Amelia in surprise. I hadn't expected her to say that. Maybe the others, but not her.
'So I am,' I said defensively. And if you don't mind, I would like some sleep. And with that, I got into bed and promptly fell asleep…

I know, I know. It was a short chapter. They will get longer as the story progresses. Hopefully, I will post weekly, but I can't promise anything. Please review. I don't mind constructive criticism, but no flames. Xxx
