AN: Okay, so this is kind of an odd fic, but Deidara and his art interest me to no end, and I thought "Hey, he had to have gotten it from somewhere, right?" So I chose his mother. Reveiws are always welcome!
My mother died today
"Life is fleeting,"
That's what she said
"That's why it's beautiful."
I can still remember when she said those words
Her long blond hair was pulled back and she was covered in clay
She held a small bird in her hand and smiled at me
"Deidara, come here, let me show you something,"
The bird fluttered up and away from us
"Deidara, let me show you what art is."
Her hands formed a seal
"Katsu!"
The bird exploded and the orange flash left as soon as it came
I stared at where the bird had disappeared from
"Wasn't that pretty, Dei-kun?"
She was smiling so brightly
I couldn't understand
"Why'd you blow the birdie up, Momma?"
Her smile didn't falter, it only grew
She plopped down beside me
"The bird wasn't the art, the explosion was."
I was still confused
She ruffled my hair
"It's art because the explosion didn't last. It's art because it was fleeting."
I guess that made sense
Maybe
She laughed as she watched me try to work it out in my head
"How about I give you an example? What am I always telling you about life?"
That was easy, she was constantly telling me this
Almost as often as she smiled
"That I should enjoy it."
"And why is that?"
I finally got it
"Because it doesn't last long!"
"Exactly!"
She lay back and gazed at the sky
Her gaze was always so distant
But not that day
"Because life doesn't last long, that means it's fleeting,"
She turned to me
"And that my love, is what makes it beautiful."
Another huge grin
But now she wasn't grinning
She couldn't
Her body was buried deep under the ground
Left to
Oh
So
Slowly
Rot
I placed a bouquet on her headstone
And I watched as two white worms tunneled their way down
Down to my mother
I made my way back to the entrance of the cemetery
Away
But close enough
My mother was right
Life was, indeed, fleeting
And fleeting was beautiful
So shouldn't she deserve a fleeting end?
"Katsu!"
A flash and the orange burst left as soon as it came
There, that was better
Now it wouldn't be so slow
I smiled to myself
Maybe I should leave today
