Ken Melvin looked up forlornly up at the sky and thought 'How could she do this to him. His heart ached and in his hand he held a letter. A letter written by Sam Bellamy, the woman he loved telling him she was leaving for good. The pouring rain splashed on his dark blonde hair. He could feel the burning waves of pain and anguish rack through his body like a meteoric thunderstorm.
Ken's best mate Taffy Edwards came up to him and put his hand on Ken's shoulder. He asked 'Are you OK, Ken? Viv's just told me about Sam'. Ken turned to his friend and said angrily 'I'll be OK, in a while. I only loved her after all'. He turned away from Taff and continued thinking. His white shirt was soaked and he looked cold, but it seemed he was immune to feeling it, feeling everything except the pain in his heart.
Taffy left and Ken looked at the letter again. His heart turned cold as he read it. Had they never been in love? Had it all been a dream? How could Sam do this to him. CAD Inspector Sam Bellamy, the person he had loved for three years had just left him like that? Ken wondered what meant more to her him or this new job of hers as Head of CAD in some division. Feelings of anger mixed with burning pain shot through his body. Ken crumpled the letter and threw it in the gutter leaving his heart with it lying there and went back into the nick.
