It was a dream. It had to be a dream. Only a dream could allow him to drift this way, as though he were everyone, yet no one. He watched the scene play out in curiosity. He felt as though he should know what was going on, yet it felt as though he were seeing it for the first time.

As though he were seeing it through someone else's eyes.

The images froze suddenly, and came into sharp focus. A scene that was all too familiar to him was revealed, though not as he had always imagined it. The hall was poorly lit, mostly illuminated by the light of the moon. On the ancient throne was King Raminas, slumped over in death. A man partially obstructed his view of the deceased King, though something was preventing him from gazing at the man's face. And before the regal man, held down by two guards, was the cause of all his unjust suffering.

The Commoner Knight.

The Captain.

Sir Basch fon Ronsenburg.

He felt his heart clench painfully. He didn't want to turn around. He knew what he would find if he turned around. He didn't want to see. He didn't think he could bear the sight of his brother's dead body.

'Don't believe them.'

He froze. He knew that voice. But it couldn't be.

Reks was dead.

'Don't believe what they tell you.'

He reluctantly turned to what he thought was to be his brother's dead body. Instead, there stood Reks, just as he remembered him. Only something was different.

Reks had never looked so tired. So pained. So sad.

'It's all a lie.'

"But he killed you…" he whispered, on the verge of tears. "They saw…"

'They saw what they wanted to see.'

'Only you can see…'

He shook his head, frantic. This had to be a dream, a nightmare. After all, only in his dreams could his brother be alive, talking to him, telling him that everything was as it should be. Reks took a step towards him, and he panicked, sealing his eyes shut and dropping to his knees, curling in on himself.

And then, his brother was hugging him, just like he had before. For a moment, it was as though nothing had happened, that everything was as it should be.

'Vaan…'

'Only you can see…'

'This wasn't how it was meant…'

'I failed you… I failed you both…'

'I'm sorry… Vaan…'

'Don't give in.'
