Year: 1912.

Rose Dewitt Bukater woke at three o'clock, as she had been waking at the time for the past few days, as it was only a week before her wedding. She had mixed feelings about the wedding. Would she eventually learn to love Cal? Or would she have a miserable life for all eternity? Rose got up from her bed, and did what she did every night. Put on her bathing suit, then walked to the lake and went swimming. Rose had always loved the water; she had spent most of her time in the water. Her mother hated it; as she hated most things Rose did. She would always say it was unladylike to spend the whole day in the water, or it was rude to not socialize. But why would Rose want to socialize? Socialize with all the high society who just contributed to make her life miserable? No. Rose would never do that, and turn into her mother; an ice queen.

Rose slowly lowered her body into the cold April water. Ruth always said 'Rose! Get out of that water! Its freezing! You'll have hypothermia for your wedding!'

Well the water wasn't even close to how cold she felt in her lonely life.

Rose became depressed when her father died, but her mother informed her she would be meeting, and soon be marring Caledon Hockley, she lost all her faith.

Rose climbed back on to the dock, and went back to bed, for now she could sleep all day, and slip into her dreams.

'Rose! Sweetpea! Wake up, it's nearly noon!' Cal said, standing at the threshold.

Rose opened her eyes slowly after he left and started climbing out of bed.
