Here's the prologue to my new random story, Things Never Change. Yes, although this beginning is mostly just angsty, Gwevinny goodness, it does end up crossing over with House. Just wait until the next chapter. And I apologize for any stupid diagnostic mistakes I put in here; I've never been to medical school. So...

"This is stupid."

"For once, I agree with Kevin," Ben said. "This is stupid."

Gwen sighed. "I don't like this any more than you do. I hate it. But this…"

"Is a huge chance for your mom, we know," Ben finished her sentence.

"Are you sure you'll be alright?" Kevin asked. Gwen could have sworn she heard his voice quiver.

"I can take care of myself," she said. "And I've got my cell phone and badge, and…" Her voice wavered and her eyes started watering. She leaped forward and embraced him. At first he looked shocked, but then he smiled and wrapped his arms around her. Ben stood to the side with a tear running down his cheek, but he smiled all the same.

"Gwen!" her mom called. "We're waiting!"

They let go. Gwen glanced at Ben, then Kevin, and forced a smile through her tears. "Don't strangle each other, okay?" she choked out. The boys' frowns twitched an inch.

"Bye Ben." She gave him a quick squeeze that he returned without hesitation. She turned to Kevin. Then, completely out of the blue, she jumped forward and pressed her lips into his. He shuddered and froze from shock, then after a moment he softened and pressed closer. The kiss held for a few seconds before Gwen drew back.

"Bye Kevin," she said, her eyes tinted red. She turned around and ran for the car as fast as she could, leaving her confused cousin and dazed friend in front of what used to be her house.

"Are you ready to go?" her dad asked as she sat next to Ken in the back of the car.

She looked back at her friends one last time. "As ready as I'll ever be."

"Finally. Goodbye Bellwood." Her mom turned the key and shifted into drive. "New Jersey, here we come!"
