It was a bittersweet anniversary.
They had been together for twenty-five years.
And Ernie had been dead for twenty-five years.
They met at the funeral.
Cedric stumbled on the table next to them, spilled some of his cider. Cursed.
Ron and Cedric had both loved the same man for ten years. Loved a man that didn't love them back.
Ron sipped his beer. A gang of teenagers passed the round window. Snow, frost, Christmas spirit.
The pub was crowded, hot.
People, food, alcohol.
"Cheers", Ron said. Grinned.
"Cheers."
They were old.
Grey. Wrinkly.
They hadn't been sad for years.
