Chapter One

I'm feeling pretty confident as I exit the bathroom. You never know what sort of useful information you'll hear in there. And what I just heard would certainly be useful. I'm so immersed in my scheming that I hardly notice when I bump into Nina in the hall.

"Oh! Sorry, Nina; didn't see you there," I apologize politely. I automatically move to help her pick up her books, but stop myself when I realize Fabian is practically throwing himself at the ground to help her. "Oh, look. Fabian's already beat me to it. What a gentleman!" I smile at Nina and nudge Fabian as I continue on my way, whispering, "You're welcome, Romeo." As I turn away, I hear Nina say, "Thanks, Fabian! You're so sweet!"

A pang of jealousy runs through me at that. Nina may be oblivious, but at least she can stand to hang around Fabian. I haven't had a serious conversation with Mara since Mick returned.

That won't be a problem for long, though, I think as a mischievous grin spreads across my face.
