A long, long time ago, two races ruled the Earth. Humans and Monsters. Two monsters ruled alongside two humans.

Two humans were appointed as the royal scientists, as no monsters were fit for it.

One day, one of the scientists found a black creature in the forest. It attacked him.

The creature was hard to fight, but he escaped.

Little did he know, the monster had attached to his SOUL. He became a skeleton, a monster.

Running back to the Lab, the other scientist realized what happened.

There was a darkness going around, more of a rumor to some.

So, she proposed a machine to contain the darkness to the king. He approved, and the two began to work on the machine immediately.

When they finished the machine, they realized it could not remove darkness from a SOUL. He was fine with this.

They removed most of the world's darkness, the rest having attached to a soul.

That's when the machine exploded.

The debris filling the room cleared, revealing a small skeleton enveloped in a black aura.

The scientists stared at the child, before bringing him out of the dark lab and to the outside.

When the child came into the sunlight, he began to act as if he was in pain.

They brought him back in, and ever since he lived there.

When the scientist had a son, he brought him to the lab to meet his adopted son.

The two bonded, one light and the other darkness.

Eventually they brought the child outside, with protection of course.

At one point, the child (a teen at this point) freaked out, killing nearby humans with his darkness, including his adoptive human mother.

The humans blamed both brothers, killing the one of light.

Enraged at his brother's death, the dark one killed almost every human.

Few humans survived, but survive they did.

The darkness was locked in Mt Ebott, and the father remained the royal scientist, but was upset without his son.

Asriel closed the history book. "That time in history must've sucked."

Chara popped out of nowhere. "You're telling me! My entire family coulda died."

The two child stared at the cover for a bit. "Yknow he looks like someone who'd be evil." Chara said.

Asriel looked at the cover a bit more, then put the book back on the shelf. Leaving his bedroom with Chara following, he walked to the castle gardens.

He stared at the statue of the skeleton family he insisted be made. "I still can't believe they killed Papyrus."

"Who?" Chara questioned.

"Oh, right! Gaster told me the names of his sons." Asriel said.

"Oh.. Well what's the name of the evil one?" Chara questioned.

"Sans." Asriel answered.

"Without.. Suits him. Without kindness, without good, without mercy.." Chara went on and on before Asriel interrupted.

"Chara, ever think he's not so bad?" Asriel looked back to the statue. "He looks nice.."

"Asriel, do you even hear yourself?! He's evil!" Chara said, throwing her arms (and sleeves) into the air.

Asriel huffed. "Chara do you judge books by their covers?"

Chara nodded. "Mainly the titles though."

"Covers. Imagine a cover without a title."

"I'd never."

"You are."

"Wha?"

"You're judging him." Asriel gestured to Sans in the statue.

Chara crossed her arms. "Well, he's evil. He deserves it."

Toriel came into the gardens. "Children, you must get ready! It is the anniversary of the Death of Light." She said, taking their hands and hurrying to her room, where the children's outfits were.
