prologue
Third person pov
He sat there, reflecting on his life. Most people say they would love that kind of life. In his mind they were full of crap. He was the hero of Olympus, slayer of medusa, retriever of the lightning bolt, finder of the golden fleece, savior of artemis, defeeter of hyperion, kronos, and polybotes, navigator of the labyrinth, survivor of tartarus, and defeater of Gia. But no matter how many accomplishments he had, he would trade any of them for one of his friends back.
pitiful he thought
he had learned not to trust people the hard way
"i'm home he said" as he walked into the house. "annabeth?" he wondered as he proceeded to look around. "must be at work la_." his muse was interrupted by a noise coming from their room. he slowly walked up the stairs to reveal said woman. but she wasn't alone. he slowly left thier_no her bedroom he thought angrily she didn't even notice i was there he thought. he was livid, disgusted but...impressed? how long was she doing this he thought, how did i not know, she hadn't shown the signs she spent most of her time with him they called each other at work all the time, they had even scheduled their breaks together. she had even said she was suspicious that he was cheating on her. O the irony
he wrote a note
So he did what was natural. He sought comfort, but who with? He had nobody. his mother's apartment had burned to the ground. Annabeth had been the only one who had helped him cope. All his other friends had moved on, gotten married, had kids... he was utterly and completely alone.
He thought of going to his father, but thought better of it. His father had never been there for him before. He hadn't been there when he was beat, he hadn't been there when his mother died. Why would he be here now? But through through the messed up wreck that was his life, he had never been mad or upset. What would that accomplish? So instead of getting upset or crying he decided to do something about it. Who knew? maybe hades would allow him to visit his mother in Elysium. no going back now. He thought as he pressed the cold metallic barrel to his head.
