Buffy sighed and looked down at her hands. She was facing what could possibly be the hardest decision of her life. Not wanting to be on her own in this, she turned to Xander for help. "Bring It On or Mean Girls?"
"You're asking me? I don't even know how I got sucked into this."
"Because Willow was busy. And are you telling me that you don't like watching girls in belly shirts and short skirts? Plus, me!" She gave him her most winning grin.
Now it was Xander's turn to sigh. "You've convinced me. Not that I ever minded spending time with you. Plus, there is the bonus of pizza." He reached for a slice. "Did you talk to Dawnie today?"
"Yeah." Buffy fiddled with the remote, trying to figure out how to work the new DVD player.
"And how is she doing with the big bad world of college? After last year, I was pretty sure she didn't want to be within 1000 miles of Sunnydale. But here we are, back in the wonderful wonderful state that tried to eat us."
"It was her choice. She wanted to go to school here. And anyway, after we shut down Cleveland, I officially declared my retiring. I say, let someone else save the world a few times before we try that again. Hence, the movie watching."
She had finally gotten the player to work, and they settled on the couch, ready for a night of television. Buffy snuggled into him and he put his chin on her head. "Xand, I don't know what I would do without you."
"Well, for one, you would have to watch these movies by yourself. Also, your house would probably be just a big pile of wood." Despite the fact that Buffy was no longer a working Slayer, demons still attacked them quite frequently. Buffy and Xander lived together for several reasons, the primary one being the cheapness factor. It was also handy to not have to call him every time she threw something through the door.
"You know, we're kind of like a little family. I'm the dad, and you're the mom and Dawn's our kid."
"Except that would make me about eight when I had her. So not so much."
"Actually, she's only like four, so would that make you…nineteenish when you had her?"
Buffy just looked at him, "You are so weird. Where do you come up with this stuff?"
"Too much time alone in my head. But do you ever think about that? Starting a family, I mean?"
She shrugged, "Yeah, but then I remember that my only real boyfriend is married and in the special ops. So that makes me think that maybe I should just stay away from the guys. But I guess…I want to have kids someday."
"You'd be a great mom."
"Would I?"
"You raised Dawn just fine. And who better to protect someone than Slayer-Mom?"
Buffy smiled, "Thanks Xander. I'm sure you'd make a great dad."
"Listen to us, being all normaly. Go us."
"Yay." Buffy said through a mouthful of cheese. Here she was, watching TV with one of her best friends. She had talked to her younger sister earlier in the day, and Dawn seemed to be supremely happy in school. Willow was in control of her magics, with Giles instructing her occasionally, but he was busy running his second magic shop. He had bought it after they moved back to California. Even Faith and Robin seemed to be settling in a little. All in all, everyone was alive and not only well, but thriving. Buffy, for one, looked forward to finally being able to rest.
