Realization

I want to try and write a fluff… for those of you who have read my other pieces, and for those of you who will after reading this ::winkwinknudgenudgesaynomore:: you know that I am not good with fluff. But I love fluff, so I want to try and write some, but I apologize in advance if it sucks Raven Heart

Zuko and Katara sat at the edge of the lake, watching one of the rarest and most beautiful of the celestial events, and one that effected them both profoundly; a partial solar eclipse. The Sun and Moon had been moving as mirror images of each other all day, and now, as they reached the horizon, they began to merge.

They each let out twin gasps as one corner of the Sun was turned dark and the Moon seemed to burn with a bright silver light. Katara felt a rush of energy to her core as the Moon blazed with radiance and power, whereas, Zuko felt a lazy coolness come over him, and he welcomed it, relishing the dimming of his flames, knowing that when they returned he would feel better for it.

Steadily, over the course of thirty minutes the black center grew larger and the Moon and Sun blazed with renewed ferocity. The world was in a state of intense beauty, everything had a double shadow, one outlined in the silver waves of moon shadows, and the other burning with red and gold, things took on strange appearances, mundane things like a pebble on the beach glowed and shimmered with evanescent delicacy and the water of the lake itself seemed to be on fire all at the same time with silver and gold flames.

Then equality was reached, when both the moon and sun were equal crescents on either side of the deep black oblong in the center of them, which was made up of the merged orbs. At that instant, Katara and Zuko both felt a sense of total peace, and oneness, the whole world seemed to hold its breath as the two Benders turned to look at each other, and a blaze of understanding lanced through them.

Katara thought how amazing Zuko looked with one side of his face gilded in gold, and the other side brushed in the finest silver, and somehow, she knew that he was thinking the same about her. Without even realizing they had done it, they found that they had laced their fingers together.

Zuko thought that this was the most perfect moment of his life, and wondered how he had never noticed before how perfect Katara was in every way. Her eyes, her hair, her nose, her lips…

And then they were kissing. There was no lust in the kiss, no desire for anything other than the other person's heart. They felt, if it were possible, more complete then before. Steam rose from the water around Zuko's ankles and spun itself into elaborate patterns at Katara's whim, as the kiss continued.

After what could have been a few moments, or a hundred years, they broke apart, gazing into each other's eyes.

"Maybe we shouldn't have done that…" said Katara in a voice barely more than a whisper. They were still so close that Zuko could feel Katara's sweet breath on his face.

"You're probably right." Murmured Zuko, cupping Katara's cheek in his hand. "But since when has that stopped us?"

Katara laughed as they fell into each other's arms, enjoying being so close to the one they loved.

The Sun and Moon set, the stars emerged, the wind stirred the sweet smelling grass, the world held it's breath, and the heavens turned; a cathedral all their own, in which they pledged their undying love.

Moon and Sun. Water and Fire. Ice and Ember. Katara and Zuko.
