Bad Career Advice?

Written for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry Term 7 Assignment 1

Task: There are many different career options, some more popular than others. Auror, Healer and Professor are among the most popular, so for this assignment, I would like you to look at some of the less common careers. Take a career from the following list and base your story on a character taking up that career.

Broom Maker

Dragonologist

Hit Wizard/Witch

Musician

Obliviator

Wandmaker

Bar Maid/Keep

The one I choose is highlighted.

Lily Luna Potter sighed for what was probably the hunderth time that day. Nope, this job really wasn't the right one for her. This she had decided that after her first day. Why had she listened to that stupid career advisor anyway?

'Bar Maid is the perfect career for you' he had said.

Sure. In hindsight she thought that the guy had either drunken to much, or just didn't care what he told the students. It was probably the latter.

She frowned recalling the day she had to meet up with the guy and tried to tell herself that he had looked totally unserious. Hadn't he?

"Lily, come on, there are some customers waiting for you"

Lily looked up from her position on the counter to see her boss staring at her, a tray of drinks in her one hand.

"Coming," she replied, making her way over to a table where a group of guys where sitting. Her workplace, the Three Broomsticks was normally always crowded and full of people, but today seemed to be rather quiet, with only a few people filling the tables. Taking the order from the guys she went to prepare and afterwards deliver it.

The youngest Potter sighed again, this time with relief, as she hadn't dropped or spilled anything, unlike her first day. Messing up orders, spilling drinks - unfortunatly more often on customers than on the floor. She was honestly surprised that Madame Rosmertha hadn't kicked her out and told her to get another job, better suited for someone as clumsy as her. The old inn keeper had been understanding however and so she stayed as the new bar maid of the Three Broomsticks. Back then on that day she could have slapped herself. Normally she wasn't that clumsy and normally she wasn't that bad in talking to other people. At least she hadn't told her brothers the truth about her first day of work. That would have been a humiliation.

Speaking of her brothers, her thoughts now rotated to them. James a great Auror in training like their Dad and Albus, a Dragonologist under uncle Charlies wings. Those two were really successfull. At least everyone supported her with "her" career decicion. Some of her friends even thought that it was cool for her to be working in the most awsome pub in whole Hogsmeade. Or so they said at least.

A few months had passed and Lily started to feel really comfortable in her new career. Despite not liking it at first, she now seemed to quite enjoy serving the customers, exchanging the newest news with people from all over the wizarding and magical community. For the first time she understood why the careeer advisor had suggested bar maid for her. She loved talking to people and was talented at cooking small stuff.

After a few years she would even thank her carrer advisor. A part of the Three Broomsticks now belonged to her. Handed down from her by Madame Rosmertha, since the woman became too old to handle everything in her bar alone. Deciding on an career that was regarded as unpopular by many students became the best decicion of her life.
