routine

Routine. Noun. Habitual or mechanical performance of an established procedure.

Tony and Steve had a morning routine (if Tony ever made it to bed the night before, that is).

Steve got up at six o'clock sharp every morning (something to do with the military, he says. Tony doesn't really remember ((or care)).). He would roll out of the bed (always on the left side, because that's the side he slept on), and pull on a pair of running shorts and a t-shirt. He'd go the bathroom, brush his teeth, shave if needed, and wash his face (always using the sink on the left side, because that's the side that's his).

Then he'd go back into the room, press a kiss against the forehead of a groggy Tony and head down to the kitchen. There he'd set a pot of coffee to boil and leave for his morning jog (three miles, twenty minutes). When he came back, the coffee would be ready and not too hot anymore, so he'd pour two mugs of it and bring it back to his (and Tony's!) room. He'd leave one on each nightstand, before disappearing into the bathroom to shower.

By the time he got out of the shower, Tony would have been awake, sipping at the coffee and mumbling about how he never understood how Steve got up so early in the morning to go running, of all things. Steve would shake his head fondly, ruffle Tony's hair, and usher him into the bathroom to get ready for the day (Tony always used the right side, because that was his side). When Tony got out of the bathroom, Steve finished his coffee and waited near the door while Tony changed (facing the door because they were lovers but Steve was still a chivalrous young man). Then they'd walk down to breakfast together, and join the rest of the Avengers for a day of… well, anything, really.

The day itself always varied. Some days Tony and Bruce would disappear into the lab (okay, most days). Sometimes they'd all go to Central Park, or they'd all watch a movie together. Or Clint and Natasha would go on a mission and everyone would sit around the kitchen table, mourning the absence of their favorite assassins. Or they'd do nothing all day and just sit and talk and laugh and drink.

The day itself always varied, but the morning routine between Steve and Tony was always exactly the same (except when it wasn't).

a/n: i hope you enjoyed that. i'm not really sure what brought it on... the song i was playing in the background was beautiful disaster by jon mclaughlin so it really has nothing to do with the song.
