The ending line of the note Sara left for him. He read it over and over. It took a while for it to sink in. She's leaving he thought.
She had been acting strangely since she was kidnapped and even stranger still when she asked for the case. She had been withdrawn; unhappy. But I can't do anything about it now he thought sadly. He was still in the office when he read the note. It was all he could do not to start sobbing in the hallway; although with the things that had been happening it wouldn't be too unusual. She totally baffled him and everyone else that saw them, when she walked right up to him in the middle of the hallway and kissed him, deeply. That made his heart swell. He knew she loved him enough not to care who saw them together. But he also knew there was something wrong. I should have run after her, he thought.
He sniffed, folded the note neatly and placed it in the pocket of his jacket. He would keep it there with him until she came back.
He slowly made his way to his car and went home; although home wasn't really home without Sara in it.
