Arrivederci
Aradia walked out of her hive, unsure what to expect. She was sure it wouldn't be a good idea to trust Vriska, but the temptation to see Sollux was just too much for her to pass up. The moons hung low in the starry sky that evening, and there was a slight breeze blowing in from the west, causing Aradia's hair to flutter softly behind her as she walked. She just wanted to prove that Vriska was pranking her so she could move on. Sollux would have told her if he was making a long trip like this.
As she looked around, she noticed something. There was a solitary silhouette in the sky, advancing quickly toward her. A faint spark of hope lit in her eyes, despite the fact that the voices of the dead were becoming steadily louder. A ghost of the smile traced her red painted lips. He really had come to see her.
"Sollux?" she called out softly, looking up at him hopefully. However, as he continued to approach, she began to notice something was desperately wrong. His eyes and hands were glowing with a faint red and blue haze. There was something yellow and sticky-looking smeared at the corner of his mouth. Her smile faded, crushing disappointment taking its place. Somewhere inside, a message sounded on Pesterchum.
"Arrivederci, Megido."
The pain barely lasted a second. The force knocked her down, burning holes in the loose fabric of her shirt and skirt. The heat surrounded her so suddenly she couldn't even scream before it was over. Everything went black and for a moment, if only for a moment, it was silent. Nothing hurt anymore.
Sollux awoke in a patch of grass, entirely unsure of what had happened or how he had gotten there. Had he just blacked out? He couldn't be certain. He sat up slowly, every muscle in his body sore. There was something sticky on the corner of his mouth. He wiped it away, looking down at the bit of syrupy yellow now between his fingers. A look of utter terror crossed his face as he began to look around him. Several feet away there lay a female body.
"No… Please no…" he whispered softly as he stumbled toward the body, dumbfounded. He dropped down onto his knees beside her, looking down at the girl he had never even had the chance to talk to face-to-face. He picked up the cold, slightly stiff body slightly, pulling it into his arms as though he could somehow hug the life back into her. He mumbled choked apologies into her hair.
She floated beside him for a while, just watching. She wanted to make it up to him, but he couldn't see her. He wouldn't, for a while. She knew what had to be done now. For now though, she just pet his hair and wrapped her arms around his neck, whispering forgiveness in his ear. He felt a soft, cool wind blow around him the entire time he sat there with her that night.
