Alec Azam was furious. He paced back and forth, stomping across the cage with large white feet. His whiskers twitched in agitation.
That little bitch... he raged. Think's she's the hottest new thing.
Just then, the door to Presto's dressing room swung open, and the magician dropped Miss Abra Cadabra into Alec's cage. Abra was a sleek white rabbit with long whiskers and a fluffy little cotton ball tail, the kind that Alec knew he was never going to have. She was a year younger than Alec, and his worst nightmare was being replaced by her. Alec knew that if he didn't act fast, it was going to come true.
"Good evening, Alec," Abra said silkily, chewing smugly on the tip of a fresh carrot. Alec's stomach rumbled. "Enjoy the show? Oh, wait, I forgot. You weren't in it." She smirked.
Alec's nose twitched irritably. "Can it, Abra."
"Jealous?" She'd switched to a healthy stick of celery. "Why? Because Presto favors me? Because I'm cuter?"
Alec rolled his eyes and slumped next to the food bowl.
"Younger?" Abra jeered. Alec ignored her, but his ears twitched with fury.
"Better than you?"
"Abra, shut up!" Alec roared, leaping across the cage and shoving a carrot into her mouth. She merely smiled and chewed it before swallowing.
"Thanks, baby."
"Yeah, whatever," he said grumpily. "Keep telling yourself that."
"Alec," she called, taking a sip of water. "I'm sorry about last night, you know. It was Presto's fault that the hat burst into flames. Not yours."
The bubbles of anger were beginning to dissolve inside of Alec. "Are you really sorry? Or are you just trying to make me feel guilty?"
"No," she said thoughtfully, tossing him a carrot stick. "I really am."
He caught it and nibbled on the end. "I'm sorry too, I guess."
"See? We're Alec Azam and Abra Cadabra, the dynamic duo, the dream team. We can't stay mad at each other." She hopped over and placed a fuzzy kiss on his cheek. He smiled, his mouth still full of carrot.
Oh, Abra. Abra, Abra, Abra.
