Written for the AU Battle Competition
Bartender!AU. Draco/Ginny. Prompt: "You mean…that happens a lot?"
"You mean…that happens a lot?" Ginny asked the very sexy bartender, nursing her Coke while behind her, the bachelorette party gasped when they opened another present. For someone so studious and quiet, Hermione was apparently having a grand old time opening the increasingly naughtier gifts for her upcoming marriage to Harry.
Ginny wasn't bitter per se about the fact that her ex-boyfriend and the first boy she had ever had a crush on was marrying the girl she always wondered if he liked, but she wasn't exactly happy. She was here because Hermione was still her friend, she was a bridesmaid, and she knew that she and Harry wouldn't have worked out in the long run.
She still felt a pang in her heart though.
Ginny had been decided upon as the designated driver, which she hadn't gotten a say in at all, and while part of Ginny wished that she could get very, very drunk tonight, part of her was content watching her friends make fools of themselves.
That was until she met the bartender. All of her single friends, which was everyone besides Hermione, Luna, Tonks, and Fleur, were chatting him up, but seeing as how they were very drunk, it was the exact opposite of what they wanted to be.
Mainly, very funny and not sexy in the least. Though Ginny cringed when she thought about how she must look when she was in the clubs, drunk and hitting on the bartenders.
Hopefully, she prayed, not as bad as Lavender.
"You'd be surprise," said the bartender. "Don't get me wrong, it's very flattering, but it's also a little creepy. Your friend isn't as bad as other's though."
He smiled at her and Ginny felt herself grow warm. She smiled back. "I'm Ginny," she said, as she held out her hand.
"Draco," he said, as he took it.
"Draco?" she asked with a quirk of her eyebrow. She had heard some names in her time, but she was pretty certain that was one of the more different ones.
It was also one of the nicest, and as Ginny looked at the bartender, with his white-blond hair falling into his sharp gray eyes, his body nice and lean from what had to be regular workout's at the gym, and with a smirk that made Ginny what to have some fun and make some trouble, it seemed perfect for him.
"My family's pretty old," he said, and waved his other hand around the bar (Ginny suddenly realized that they were still shaking hands, but she didn't want to bring any attention to it) as he continued "and wrong as I've recently realized. My cousin, Dora, set me up with this job."
"Your cousin is Tonks?" Ginny said in astonishment, quickly withdrawing her hand as she tried to put the pieces together. She could see no point of resemblance between them. Not one. They were as different looking as Harry and his cousin Dudley were.
"Yeah," he said. "I don't think she realizes I'm working tonight based on what I've seen. I'm assuming that surprises you?"
"Yes!" Ginny said with a laugh. "I never would have guessed."
"Many people wouldn't," he responded with one of his own. She liked it.
A rather high-pitched squeal erupted behind her and Ginny heard her name being called. She sighed. She didn't want to leave Draco, but she knew that if she didn't go over, they would come to her and God only knows what they would do or say to him. She really did not want a repeat of the Lavender incident.
"I have to go," she apologetically.
"Too bad," Draco said with a sigh and a cheeky smirk. "I had a really good plan on how to ask you out."
Ginny didn't even bother to contain her smile as she turned to walk back towards her friends. "Then I guess you'll have to think of a better one tomorrow night," she told him over her shoulder.
"Count on it!" she heard him yell behind her.
"I will," she muttered to herself.
