Poem Without an End

I look into the mirror

And what is it that I see

But twin pools of sadness

Staring back at me

I cannot change the gaze

Not that I ever had the chance

The world has made me this way

Though you wouldn't know it from first glance

You see a diligent student

A coy daughter

And a sympathetic friend

I see a lamb led to slaughter

Your silence is my guide

Which has led me here

To stare into my own eyes

Trembling with fear

This will be my destruction

A path into the unknown

With sadness in each step

I start my journey alone

I want to turn back

As I pass more abandoned dreams

But in my heart I remember

Nothing is as it seems

Though first bringing doubt

I truly learned a lesson here

At any time I could loose my way

And this only strengthens my fear

A fear backed by not knowing

Of a new path and new place

Bringing much challenge and tribulation

Only there to slow my pace
