Opposites Attract
Shikamaru is lazy, that's all there is to it I have no idea how or why I fell in love with him. He was sloppy, boring, and always saying: "What a drag," or "how troublesome." He never shows up on time for anything or anyone.
Gaara strongly disapproved of our relationship right away. He told me that we didn't have anything in common, at all. Every time I would bring Shikamaru around Gaara would glare and Kankuro would pick on him. There were many disputes between Gaara and I over this. I eventually moved away.
Shikamaru insisted me to move in with him, so I did, the day after I moved in he took me to meet his parents; Shikaku and Yoshino Nara.
Shikaku was just like Shikamaru. Yoshino yelled at Shikaku like I did. I saw where the similarities showed. Yoshino and I talked for a bit.
"You don't seem as bad as Shikamaru said you were." She said laughing.
"As bad?" I asked, feeling a little uncomfortable.
"No, he compared you to me, but you aren't that bad... yet." She said looking away from me.
"What do you mean yet?" I asked looking at her, paranoid that she meant something bad.
"You are completely different, he is lazy and pathetic, like his father and you are... smart and active and can fend for yourself, I wish Shikamaru would get out of his father's habits." She said, her eyes piercing me.
"I will try my best to help him, Mrs. Nara, I swear." I said standing immediately.
She nodded at me then walked into the kitchen, "Yoshino! Get in here now!" Shikaku yelled at her. She instantly went red.
"Or what? What will you do? I'm already living in Hell!" She said the last part quietly.
"Yoshino, can I ask you something?" I asked her while she took a drink of tea.
"Yes." She then gave me the go ahead.
"If you and Shikaku don't get along, why do you stay together?"
She shook her head, a smile playing on her lips, "Temari, when you are young, you don't think. When you don't think, you get married too soon and get pregnant. At that point, you think you're in love, but in the end, the only thing tying each other together is a child." She admitted sadly.
"But, if you really are in love you would stay with the person no matter what." She added.
I thought about Yoshino's words all night as Shikamaru slept. I didn't know if it was love, I was only eighteen, still young. Shikamaru didn't know either.
I finally got restless and tapped on Shikamaru's shoulder. "Shikamaru?"
"Mm?" He said, still halfway asleep.
"Do you love me?" I asked sitting up, preparing for the worst.
"What?" He shot up instantly.
"Do you love me?" I asked him calmly again.
"L-Love you? Temari, what the Hell? It's three in the morning, go back to sleep." He said laying back down.
"Not until you answer me." I told him turning the lights on.
"Temari! What is wrong with you? You're being even more troublesome than usual!" He said rubbing his eyes and yawning.
"I just want to know if I'm making a big mistake or not!" I yelled sinking down to my knees. Silent tears of frustration slid down my cheeks.
"Mistake?" He asked sitting up, his eyes full of hurt.
"I didn't want us to do something we aren't ready for." I said wiping my eyes.
He sighed and sat next to me, I rested my head on his broad shoulders. "Temari, I do love you, I always have and always will." He said solemnly looking straight into my teal eyes.
I knew that he was telling the truth.
Yes, we were opposites, lazy and active. Laid back and straight forward. These differences only made us stronger and only made us love each other more.
